I bought some 3M Body Repair Rubbing Compound, Fine Cut.

How is this different from 3M FII Fine Cut???

Should I be using this, or did I buy the wrong stuff??

Sveet,

I just used the 3M Body Repair Rubbing Compound - Fine Cut (03900) today on a white 2000 Volvo with the PC 7424 (1st Time). The car's finish was slightly oxidized and had pleanty of surface imperfections. I was rather impressed with the results! Having said this, I believe the 03900 product is more agressive than the FI-II. I base my knowledge solely on what it says on the bottle, "Safely and effectively removes 1500 grit or finer scratches." The FI-II product description reads, "Quickly and effectively removes minor scratches, producing a brilliant, deep, wet look shine." Considering the FI-II product targets "minor" scratches, I would assume it is less agressive than that of the 03900.

It was a long day out there today... Wash, Clay, Compound, Wax! I practiced with the new PC on a relatives car! :) I'll be detailing my Passat next weekend. I can't wait!

Is it an older 3M container with a plaid pattern on it? It might just be the ancestor of the current FCRC.... What's the product #?

Bottle has plaid on upper left corner of sticker.

It is product number 03900.

I bought it at K-Mart.

I'd simply guess that the stuff you have is just an older bottle of the same PI II FCRC used today. The name certainly sounds similar. None of the current 3M bottles still have their old labels with the plaid pattern, and looking up the product # didn't come up with much.

I would personally just go ahead and use it like the FCRC mentioned around here.

I don't know if this helps but the PI II fine cut I have is part #39002 and the Imperial microfinish medium cut I have is part #39001 and they both say they remove 1200 grade scratches but he medium cut says 1200 sand scratches, and medium scratches(whatever that means) and the PI II says 1200 grade and finer sand scratches. Anyways the obvious next # down the list is your #39000. But that may not mean anything.
