3M 05933, Rubbing compound and 05937 MG

1999 Toyota Tacoma TRD, Black (never detailed). Using PC 7424.



These are the "Polishes" I am going to use, to prep the paint (Black) on my truck.

3M 05933 Rubbing Compound and 05937 Machine Glaze



The 05933 will be used to go around the truck and correct the bad scratches/areas.

The 05937 will be used over the entire truck to get rid of the swirls/oxidation and blend the areas that were hit with the coarser 05933.



Question: I am pretty sure that I should use the White or polishing pad with the machine Glaze.

However, I am not sure about the problem area pad choice with the 05933.

When I am working the bad areas, I believe it should be an Orange/mild cutting pad, but not absolutely sure, and would appreciate a little guidance.



The above will be followed by Klasse AIO and again a white polishing pad, or should it be a milder pad like gray?



The Klasse SG I intend to "whisper on" the whole truck, to quote a lot of you guys, then remove later by MF towel or by PC with a MF bonnet, if I decide to even use it.



From there on I think I have a handle on everything you guys have beat into my Grey matter, but then again?

All of you have been extremely helpful in assuring I understand things and I want you to know I really do appreciate it!!

I'd expect to have to use the orange pad with the 05933. If it leaves an awful lot of micromarring (even after you break it down all the way), which I would *not* expect, then a final pass with the 05933/white might be a good idea. There's only so much the Machine Glaze can do so really severe micromarring might be beyond its capabilities.

I don't like to use finishing pads with products like AIO- they seem to load up with product, they often don't clean as well (not of much concern in this case), and I just don't like their extra-soft feel. The white polishing pad is functionally nonabrasive on most paints and if it's that way on *your* paint then I'd just use that pad.



Once you start working with the 05933/orange, IMO you'll find out whether a "Klasse-ready" finish is in the cards. If it's not, then I'd go back to my opinion that following the polishing with a glaze (i.e., a true glaze such as Meguiar's #5/#3/#81/#7) and a heavy wax like Collinite might be a better idea than the Klasse. But you can cross that bridge if and when you come to it and it's not my intention to plant the seeds of worry, but rather to offer something hopeful should things not turn out as desired. Doing a black '99 with only a PC still gives me pause, especially as I just came in from doing a little more rotary work on my '97 BMW.

Once again you were able to turn on "all" the lights! This time I am home and know exactly what you are saying, at least verbally!

If the paint wasn't in fairly good shape I would be a lot more worried also. I don't have anywhere near the swirling that a lot of guys have shown, but I do have maybe 6 scratches that give me concern. It definitely has oxidation, that worries me more than anything else.



However, if I can't get it to the point I think I can, I will have to investigate getting it repainted. As I said before I have no intention of "Ever" selling this truck, I like it that much.

However, I am starting to think about a new Toy!
