ive never done one, but im quite capable and understand the work involved. i got one coming up and i havent quoted anything yet, i do know he paid like 2300 to get it done last time from a dealer and wasnt pleased. i know ill make him happy but what would you all charge for the following...

wash tol bb, aio

four star clay

aio

sg

megs rv carnuaba

i can only think of charging hourly but would love to know what you all feel the jobs worth please gimme your thoughts

I currently charge $10 or $12 per foot for a wash and wax if that helps at all. Claying an RV is very time consuming and I personally wouldnt recommend it. But to each is own. Good luck!

I'd highly reccomend against the clay. You could decon wash the car, if you want to get bonded contaminants off. Also, the K-Twins are a bit of a PITA, espicially SG. I'd charge around 1500, figuring it's two full days of work doing it your way. My routine would be:

FK1 or ABC decon kit

Optimum compound/polish via rotary on any trouble spots/scratches/paint transfer

Collinite Cleaner Wax via PC

Collinite non-cleaner wax the next day

It's up to you, but I think this way would save you alot of effort, and you could still span it over two days and charge 1500 :).

When you figure that most 30 ft RVs would require about 15 hours of work, you would need to charge about $750 in order to make an hourly rate of $50 per hour. That works out to about $25 per ft.

I'd go Optimum Polish removed with Optimum Car Wax and either 845 or Meguiars #20 or #21.

It takes me about 6.5 hours just to one step a 45" Newell and he has a rolling staircase that I use. Probably add another hour if using a regular ladder since you get less range of motion.

Probably take you 3 hours to wash it, huge advantage if you have access to deionized water, saves you the drying step. For a 30' RV, probably 5 hours of polishing each time around (+1 hour for the roof if required), about 3 hours to apply and remove a wax. Another hour or two for the wheels, tires, mudflaps and glass. Like Frank said, plan on 15 hours or so for a proper two step exterior detail, add another 5-6 for additional polishing steps.

What is 15 hour of your time worth?

alot...lol but im still not sure what to charge this guy, i think 1500 sounds good also scott, what do i need to get complete coverage of the roof a standard ten foot ladder?

The biggest thing to remember is the demographics. It might not be acceptable to charge $25/h in north florida but in cali that might be the going rate. I'd call the local businesses and get quotes from them and then decide.. You can even go personally get the quotes and use the information your client gave you so that its accurate. Then show your client what they are charging and the give them your price and explain why your price is not only more cost effective but its better quality work as well.

Without seeing the RV, I have no idea what size ladder you will need. :nixweiss

Why not call the dealer he had the detail done at and tell them you own one of those RVs and how much do they charge for the work your customer wants done and what is included in the price.

just did a 32 foot motorhome and charged $500... $15/ft.... but the roof had a lot of mold so it took an extra hour with me K'Archer and a stiff brush so I rounded the bill to $500. took me a full day to complete the whole thing.

Me and my dad just bought a 35' RV and we are going to tackle it. It has some left over mold spots after scrubing with car wash and spray nine so we were going to polish it w/ about 3 people each with a PC and I was wondering what would be the best to use to get it clean and bring out the shine in one step so we can move on to a sealant. Also I have some poorboys EX-P would that be better than say Meguiars #20? Thanks.

No way for anyone here to tell you the best one step to use without seeing the RV in person. It is possible no one step would be heavy duty enough.

EX-P has been a bit more durable for me than #20.

you won't bring back anything w/ a porter cable if the motorhome is oxidized. you will need a rotary and some wool cut pads. don't bother claying the motorhome and don't use carnuba wax either... motorhomes are exposed to a lot of sun and the carnuba wouldn't hold up at all. use a good sealant for sure.
