#16+ OCW...3 month durability test w/PICS

GOT PREP?
My parents purchased a new Highlander in early December, per my instructions they insisted on NO prep. The car was a 2004 model that had been on the lot for almost a full year. Suprisingly, the paint was perfect, don't ask me??? :D

On December 12th I washed, clayed (lots of gunk and rail dust), applied #80 with the cyclo and green pads(much better via PC IMO), then applied a thin coat of #16 followed by one application of OCW.

The car sits outside 24/7 and has been through a touchless weekly since then. I washed it on 3-12 and was blown away at how well the the #16/ocw were holding up. We have had several days of snow and the trucks here use both regular salt and the newer liquid formulations. Other than that the weather has been a tyical memphis winter...cold and rainy.

The paint was beading VERY well, still has that hydrophobic dispersion of water when sprayed. There was *some* minor etching that QD and a srub with a MF took care of.

I simply washed and applied another coat of OCW. B&B on the tires.

Here is the finished product. I am quite pleased at the results considering the car hasn't been hand washed since December. IMO, if you are looking for long term durability and an easy combo, finishing with #16/ocw is a choice to look into.

 I really like that last pic. Looks very nice and wet!

--What is your overall impression with the OCW?

--How is the look, clear, wet, deep?

--Exactly how do you apply it, spray on wipe off?

I'm curious because I picked up some Optimum polish and they sent me a sample of the OCW with it, now I'm excited to try it!!

looks good. i am surprised at the durability of that. I have sixteen and i really don't find it easy to use. i would rather just use EX for a dark color like the highlander. oh well, just my opinion. looks great though!

I am glad to see the results of your work. It appears to have good durability. Doesn't #16 stain molding and rubber?

I know I am kind od slow. Sometimes I cannot see what I am looking at. The last picture has the street lamp on the window as a reflection. But I spent a moment wondering why you would put a twig underneath the wiper balde. At least that is what it appeared to be ..to me.

One last question...Does OCW stand for Optimum Car Wax? It is not in the secret decoder ring section

Doesn't stain for me...

Definitely a street lamp, sorry not the best composition. :D

vdog0531, yeah so many LSP's in the arsenal, I tend to change them up. I also get better durability with #16 than EX, that is what this car needs. Thanks!!!

O4cobra, yep spray on and wipe off with MF. IMO OCW is VERY prep dependent, don't expect the paint to change much after your last prep application.

I've got #16/OCW over two layers of Carnauba Moose on my car right now. Looks great and beads like crazy. Only been a week though. ;)

I've only used the OCW once but it's a real pleasure to use. It gives a very balanced look (equal depth, wetness, gloss) and tends to look better after a couple hours. I have only had it on for a week now, but beading is very pronounced.

Nice work Joe. That Highlander looks great :).

^ Thanks guys, I was really impressed considering the environmental/storage conditions that this vehicle is subjected to.

I was planning on redoing it and adding a coat of #21, but saw no need. Another application of OCW seem to spruce it right up. I will report back in another three months when I get around to detailing it again. :D
