They washed my car......

Ronkh

Wax Waster
I may be blithering a little cuz I'm tired and hurt.
(me fall down go boom then go ow yesterday)

I picked up my car from the dealer today. In big letters across the work order was written
"DO NOT WASH" As well as on the key tag, as well as highlitghted in red.

Well they washed it. No it's all swirled. :wall

The service manager knows me. I grabbed him and told him that I was 99% sure they had washed my wifes car, but I am 100% sure they washed mine. I then took him out and showed him the swirls.

He was beside himself too. He was offerring me all kinds of stuff to "make it right".

Well having lost my spaot to do my winter detailing I asked him how good his detailing shop was, since they offer "paint correction". He said "To be quite honest, you do better work, you won't be happy". "I know your work."

He kept trying to give me "stuff" to make it right.

Now my car has to go back in 2 weeks when they get a part for it. So I am trying to figure something out.

Now this service manager has done me right in the past. When my son had problems with his new car, he fedexed parts back and forth 3 times to a dealership in MD and paid the dealership in MD to take car of him. So I'm almost ready to just drop it.

Comments/ideas?

oh yeah, i probably won't have a chance to do it properly till spring.

If you have a good relationship with the manager, and he has made good in the past, it may not hurt to let this one go.
You may run into something later on where he can "make things right", because it sounds like you do regular business with this man.

I agree. If this manager seems to be as ethical as your post makes him to be and truly wants to make it up to you, I think you just suck it up and forgive. Maybe the next time you go in for service, the bill will be unusually lower than you were quoted??

First off, hope your fall wasn't too serious.

Next, unless they are serious swirls, I would not press the issue. I've had both of our cars slip by the "don't do the courtesty wash" notice in the past and never had anything happen that wasn't easily corrected. If the service manager wanted to give you an extra discount on your next service, I would surely take that and take care of my own paint rather than entrusting the correction to someone else. In short I guess my opinion runs pretty close to those already expressed by Jaybs02 and Bert.

Hope you get better from that fall. I know the feeling of disappointment when your car is swirled by the dealership. It happened to my Benz I was not a happy camper. Not sure how it would go with insurance regulations but I like Randal's idea of asking him to use a bay in the detail shop. If not it's up to you let it slide or maybe get a couple free oil changes? But I wouldn't beat the guy over it a good friend in the car business can be worth it's weight in gold.

I'm going to back this one up...its a give and take....Ron... as a business man you know that...stuff happens...and some where up the road (no pun) you may need his help again...it sure will make it easier to swallow if he knows you are a fair and understanding business person...

Hope you are OK from the fall...sounds like some ice got under your feet?:D

Ask him to use his shop at your convenience to fix it yourself. Costs him nothing and it will be done to your satisfaction. His employees can watch and learn something from you. Win, win all the way around.

I'd try to use a heated bay too, but then, I see the possibility of insurance issues and safety and such. I think it may be a nice gesture to "let it slide" if you think the mgr. is a truly nice guy and is genuine in his trying to fix things. It wasn't directly his fault, anyway, even though he has to deal with the arising issues.

I had the same issue when I bought my car in 2006. I took in for service and they washed and swirled it.

The dealer gives free inspections (safety inspections) but always treated me well. So he gave me free emission inspections for the next 2 yrs. Just abt every dealer around here will give a free safety inspection if you buy the car but not the emissions because they charge about $40 for that. So I figure for $80 buck worth of feebies I couldn't argue because he takes care of me otherwise.

thanks

Nice freebie. In Texas the two inspections (safety/emissions) are covered under the same inspection (ie. 1 sticker to be displayed on your windshield along with your registration sticker).

Make a sign next time and hang it in the window. I seen one on a detailing forum once. Not sure what one. Had a picture of a car door, and arrows where you were allowed to touch, and "X's" where you could not touch.

It said
"Touch the paint or the glass, and it's go time on your ass"

If someone can find it, please post it up or PM it to me. I had some printed a while ago.

Funny to us joking around in the forum, but I would never put something like that in any of my vehicles. It sounds demeaning. Besides, one of my good friends/hunting/fishing buddy is a mechanic who would read the sign and promptly touch each and every area noted, look you square in the eye and tell you "if you feel froggy, jump". It would be a really bad idea.

Mr Clean, you must know the same guy that I know. He would say the same!!!

Not to get off topic, so you only have 1 inspection sticker that covers both, here in PA we have 2, and its possible to pass on 1 and fail on another, so its not odd to see cars with 2 different expiration dates on their inspection stickers.

Well as I said I have 2 weeks to figuree it out. But I'll probably let it go. Besides a trip to Steve or further south is in order.
