Zaino Z-PC to a brand new car?

Hi,

Just got a brand new car last week, and now it has less than a 1000km's on the odo. I'm planning to detail it next weekend with Zaino, but my question is, should I use Z-PC to fresh factory paint. There's no swirls, but I would like to polish it before Z-5/Z-2 to add some depth and wetness to the finish.

I'm not planning to use DA or rotary, because I just bought them both and I am still learning how to use them properly (although I got some good results).

So is it stupid to use Z-PC to 2 weeks old car (Or is there any advantage?), or should I just skip the polishing step and move straight on to Z-5.

Oh, and the car is Volvo S40, Brilliant Red (non-metallic).

Nooooo... do not use ZPC on your brand new car... you shouldn't use any abrasive polishes to new car paint. In fact, I wouldn't even use ANY waxes/sealants yet on your brand new paint, especially Zaino products. Zaino is extremely durable, and if your paint hasn't fully cured yet and you apply your Zaino over it, it may cause a problem.

Ryan.

You can do what you want to brand new paint, as they are cured before they leave the factory. No need for Z-PC if the paint is in good condition. Try a very mild product, like Menzerna FPII or something similar. If you have a DA, this would be a good time to try it out, as you can't really do any damage with something as mild as FPII.

Zaino is new paint safe- use clay to remove any imbedded dirt.

Ok, here in Finland we have some limitations what comes to products, so Menzerna is not available here. AG, Zaino and Mequiar's are only, let's say, "quality"-brands here, so I have to choose between them this time. Zaino will be topper.

I have Meqs DACP and #80 polishes in my garare, but I find them not to be mild enough to fresh paint. How about AG SRP? I have used it a lot, and I kind a like it, but for some reason I stopped using it. How will Zaino act if it used with AG?

If the paint is swirl-free, after a good wash just apply Z5 with ZFX or Z1. Apply several coats. If you are familiar with claying (very mild clay), this too would be a good time to do so. After the long Finnish winter than polish out with Z-PC.

Your paint is completely cured. Even by old standards of waiting 30-90 days does not likely apply in your case. Look at your "built date". I am sure it was not assemblied and painted within the last 3 months.

Hope this helps. :wavey

Are you being sarcastic?

This is not a car that was just painted at a bodyshop (there for no need to wait for the paint to cure)... Its a car coming straight from the manufacturer. The paint is totally safe to do what you want to it. In fact I'd suggest using some ZPC as the paint probably has marring up the a$$ since its coming from a dealership, but if it doesn;t need it don't use it.

Mentioning the "paint curing" topic, Its safe to use zaino on fresh paint. Certain waxes are not, and not all sealants are the same, but to mention the TWO that I know are safe, I know that Zaino and FK1 #2180 work well.

I agree with this entirely. Not really a need for ZPC now it sounds like, if your car is swirl/marr free. Just go straight to the polishes (Z2/Z5) and you'll be set with plenty of shine and depth. After the winter, I'm sure ZPC will come in handy then.

BTW, Zaino is one of the most paint friendly products on the market and it can certainly be used on fresh paint. Ask Sal if you disagree.

Mike :)

This is poor information.

ZPC should be fine - I always polish anything new I get my hands on, as I feel I can buff it to a higher gloss than the manufacturer's paint line did. I hit my friend's brand new motorcycle with FPII/LC Black/1500, and even he noticed the difference between the side I did and the side I hadn't done yet.
