What steps and product do you use?

Hi,
I’m looking to get my car looking as if it just been detailed by a pro. I’m getting the PC7424 kit from autogeek.net because I have three cars in my house I would like to do on my own. I’ve been doing so much reading now that it’s kinda getting confusing on what product to use and what steps to take. Do I need a complete kit of polish and waxes or do I just need to get singles products. Here are my cars and do i need the use the same steps for all the car or do they all have different needs are far as the process goes?

1. Brand new Anthracite which is kinda blue and silver05 TL – what steps would you take if your paint is in really good condition? I was thinking of washing and claying for the first step and I don’t know if I want to polish the car or not? I also want to use a sealant like klass AIO then a wax after that. How does that sound?

2. 00 silver RX300 the paint on this one is still pretty good but it does have some problem area as far a scratch goes and maybe even swirls marks. I think it does need a polish on this car but do I do the whole car? Or just the problem area.

3. 95 white Acura Integra which has a lot of swirls and the paint is looking kinda dull. This car really need a good claying because I can feel all the little dirt and crap in the paint when I run my finger down the paint. Again what type of polish should I use for this car?

Your answer is not a short one. This is what my answer would be. The steps are always the same no matter what you are working on. A proper detail should include clay, paint cleaner, polish, and wax/sealant. What products you use for those steps and how much work you need in different areas varies by vehicle and vehicle condition. I would suggest that you get familiar with the tools and products you have available and use them as you see they need to be used on each car.

If you want polish recomendations then I would suggest getting some Poorboy's SSR1 and SSR2. The SSR1 would be a good polish for the new paint and fairly minor swirls. SSR2 will help with the Integra. Likely there is more oxidation on that Integra than you realize and most of the swirls will go away when that oxidation is removed.

Get familiar with the tools you have and practice practice practice. Having the tools of a pro doesn't always mean the job comes out looking like a pro did it. Spend the time you need to learn the proper way to detail a car and your results will reflect your education. Good luck!

What does poorboy's SSR2.5 and SSR3 do?

Remove swirls and oxidation. You asked for polish recomendations, right? :D

So SSR1&2 is a polish and SSR2.5 & 3 Remove swirls and oxidation?

What type of pad's do you use for SSR1&2 and SSR2.5 &3?

Would i have to buy all four things for all my cars? because my integra does have alot of swirls and oxidation.

I would still suggest you read that. If you are just starting out in this hobby then there is a lot of information you need to read up on and practice with. There is a list of products in that thread that I would suggest you start with if you are looking at doing full on professional style details on your cars. Invest $300 or so into your products and you'll have just about everything you'll need to restore your cars to perfection. Having the right tools is only half the battle. Do some research on proper swirl removal. That is what DC is here for.

Go to www.premiumautocare.com and check out their polishing pads. Read the descriptions on the pads and choose the ones that sound like what you will be using them for. There might be some good information here for you too. If you want someone to make a shopping list for you, then just ask. lol

Jngrbrdman or someone please make a shoping list for me please.

i need to know what product to use with what type of pads, i think that what im worry about becuase i dont want to mess up my car.

thanks guys

I'd head to www.premiumautocare.com and start throwing these items in your basket...

Wolfgang Pre Wax polish
Wolfgang paint sealant
Four Star Ultimate Gloss Enhancer
Four Star Ultimate Spray And Clay Combo
Poorboy's SSR1 and SSR2
Porter Cable 7424 Dual Action Polisher
7 1/2 Inch advanced C.P. Red Finishing pad
7 1/2 Inch advanced C.P. White Polishing pad
6 Inch flexible backing plate for Dual Action Polishers
Four Star Rubber & Vinyl Protectant 32 Ounce
Soft Touch Microfiber Towel X 4
Premium Drying Towel 25x36 Inch Waffle Weave

You still get the 10% Detail City discount, of course. And if you have leather in your car then you definitely need their leather cleaner and conditioner. I've never used a better of either. Its awesome stuff.

The list of stuff that you can't get from PAC (or at least, you can get it locally most likely) is like this:

Prestone Car Wash (its blue. I dont' know much more about it.)
CD2 Engine Detailing Kit (Kind of harder to find. Check K-Mart for them. PepBoys sometimes has it. I'll go more into this later.)
Prestone Foaming Carpet Cleaner
Meguiar's #40 or #39 (Get the #39 if you can find it. Its stronger.)
Shop towels (Get two rolls at least. You'll need em.)
Detailing brushes (might wanna throw in a couple of your old tooth brushes too)
Invisible Glass
Tooth Picks
Simple Green All Purpose Cleaner
Foaming engine degreaser (Gunk makes a good one)
Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner
Eagle One Wet tire shine (not the gel. get the spray)
Eagle One tire swipes (I wdidn't use to be a fan of them. Now I love them. They are the best way to spread the tire shine I've found.)
Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover
S100 wax

what the differents between SSR1&2 and Poorboy's Professional Polish?
if my car is new do i need SSR1&2 to remove swirls and oxidation?

do i need to get SSR2.5 & 3 or can i just use SSR1&2 on the differant pads will that be the same?

If you have swirls and oxidation then it doesn't matter how old the car is. What product and what pad you use will just depend on how agressive you want to get. I would say that with the pads I suggested that you should be able to handle the cars you mentioned.

thanks jngrbrdman

i was just a little confuze on what polishing does? cuz im about to order my stuff from poorboy line and i dont know if i should get the polish with carnanuba.

Personally I would stay away from combo products. Get a seperate product for polishing and a seperate one for waxing. You'll be happier with the results if you do that. The combo products are good for a new car that doesn't really have many problems.
