What speed should I use with the Porter Cable 7424 when using polish and when using wax???? Do we all agree that 1 to 2 oz of product should do a whole car??? Thanks Brian

As for speed, if your a first time user, I highly recommend starting at 4 or so, getting comfortable with that, and understanding the machines movement and capabilities. As you get comfortable handling it, feel free to increase the speed. I normally polish at 6 with the PC, and seal at 4-5. 1-2 oz (depending on products) is pleanty most of the time...

When using a polish for something like swirl removal I'm always running at 6. The difference between 5 and 6 is like night and day in terms of what you can do. The only time I might run at 5 is with 4" pads, and even then I'm still usually at 6.

can someone just explain why 6 is so much better than 5? 6 is a lot faster and stuff, but its harder for me to control and i just like how it feels on 5. but if it wont get results well i guess its worth it to go up to 6. right?

The PC is very very easy to control at 6. It will come with practice. Is the handle on your machine? Are you holding the handle? If so, that may be why its hard to control, take the handle off and hold the machine on its head instead of the handle.

You will easily be able to control it now. After using it a few times, you will probably need only one hand to work the machine....
