What is wrong?

I have a G35 coupe in black. For some reason, I have a ton of little dots and swirls on the hood only. I have used PC with #9 swirl remover and cleaner wax. I have used white pads and orange pads. I have used clay bars. Nothing works to get the dots and swirls off. The longer I work with the pads, the more frustrated I get. Any ideas on why I can't get any results?

Do you have any pics? That would be most helpful. Depends on what the dots look like as to what you may need to clean them up.

I believe that most swirl removers contain mostly fillers. That may be why it hasnt come off with PC. If this is the case, you may want to try something a little more aggressive like Menzerna (sp?)

Those little "dots" could be tiny chipping from road debris which is fairly common on all cars but really shows up on black cars. They're not like the bigger chips that go down to the primer, just "nicks" in the clear coat.

Someone here may correct me (I hope so) but you willl not be able to polish them out.

I have a Black Audi A4 which is less than 6 months old and have them already. Spent some time yesterday with a real polish/rotary @ 1800 rpm/and a light or medium cut pad.

I'll throw another idea in the hat that the "dots" may in fact be metallic flakes ( very small ).

Just a thought.....

The dots probably are acid rain spots. The japanese paints are notorious for this. I had an SC 430 (dark green) that was in the rain less than 10 times, was never allowed to dry in the sunlight and it developoed the little dots on the hood, trunk and roof. I took it back to the dealer who said "Yes this paint is very fragile". I got so pi**ed off that I sold it with 1,700 miles on it.:sosad
