What do you use for the smooth rubber/plastic trim around the window and another ?

Most trim protectants and what not always seem to be for pebbled/textured trim.

The rubber moldings on the stang on the outside doors underneath the rollups are a smooth rubber/plastic material what would you use on these?

I have some things at my disposal, VM, back to black, black again , Meguiars #40, Tiefenpleger(?), and I was eyeballing Poorboys Trim restorer in particular.

I use the Tiefen. on the outside trim a couple weeks ago and then we had a major rain storm and in places there is all this white powdery buildup, looks like crap.

I was thinking VM on it to remove oxidation then dressing with PB trim restorer. Main thing is I don't want it to streak.

So what do you guys do to clean/prep and then protect?

Sorry if this is beating an old horse it just seems most trim threads only apply to textured trim and not this specific type of trim?

Thanks in advance:xyxthumbs

I gave up on the rubber trim with products dedicated for it.

Trim restore doesnt absorb into the rubber, nothing seems to really.

I AIO, then UPP my trim.

Although, i hear megs #38 is top notch, i just havnt got around to it yet.

Much like JBM, I've pretty much given up on using "dressings" on stuff like that. If it'll accept AIO/SG or UPP then I do that. The rubber on my XJS is too absorbent for such products, but does well with VM. I've also topped that with Souveran, of all things, and it worked well. I've been using Souveran on the rubber trim of the XJS since forever, but then it *is* a garage-queen.

Of the stuff you have, I'd try the VM. Haven't tried the PB Trim Restorer so I dunno about that....

Adam's VRT works pretty nice but only lasts about 7-10 days, the only other I can think that works better is the 1z Gummipfledge.

I found Poorboys Trim Restorer to work best. Highest recommendation.

Looks and smells like a quality suntan lotion. :xyxthumbs

On my Passat after the winter I rub it down with rubbing alcohol to lift the dead rubber then AIO or VM or Meg #40
