Washing Technique

What's up autopians!! I am new to detailing and hope to become an enthusiast. I have searched but can not find the correct info on how to wash a dark colored car. I just picked up a new car and would like to keep the swirls and scratches to a minimum.

I remember someone telling me that your suppose to wash the hood and roof vertically and the side panels horizontally. Is this the correct way to wash?

Click on the LEARN button at the top and find the DETAILING HOW - TO - SERIES - you'll find a suggestion from David B. regarding technique for Washing and Drying your car. And download David's eBook - Autopia Guide to Detailing.

I have subscribed and looked for it, it doesn't tell you besides start with your wheels than wash from the top down.

I cant find it anywhere in the detailing book or the learn button. Maybe i'm missing it, could you tell what section its in cause i cant find where it says you should wash vertically or horizontally.

I would not ask if i could find it myself.

I checked out the links and i still cant find the answer. Maybe i'm asking the wrong question...let me try again. Do i wash my car using a circuler motion or do i wash the hood using a vertical or horizontal motion?

thanks for your expertise guys

I always wash in direction of air flow, as I'm picturing it that's a horizontal motion always starting from top to bottom
