Use products on top of or around decals?

I have the TRD decals on my CrewMax (which I plan to keep in place). I was wondering if I should use my detail products such as Klasse AIO, Jeff's AJT, and Collinite on top of the decals or should I go around them?

thanks

I've had decals get messed up from abrasive polishing, they lost their resistance to UV. I'll polish them with super-mild stuff like AIO, but only rarely. It oughta be safe on new ones, but I'd rather not start down the road to damage if I can avoid it.

Non-cleaning/nonabrasive stuff like Collinite is fine on them. I use 845 first and then 476S; using the 845 first seems to help with wax buildup around the edges. And I apply such products "with"/parallel to decals instead of "against"/perpendicular to them- don't shove wax up against the edges and you won't have as much to clean away later.

decals are scourges for me- i have really long ones on the side of my car ( which i would get painted on but im broke)

Perhaps I should start a new thread, but this issue seems sufficiently related to me: I have a white 2007 Tacoma with the painted fender flares. The rear ones have a piece of the 3M clear bra material or equivalent on them. My problem is something has seeped under the trailing edge of the driver's side one, either just dirt or it may be mildew. Perhaps it's my fault as I don't get to wash the truck as often as I should, but the paint on the flares also has a slight texture to it such that the edges of the clear bra material are more susceptible to this I suspect. There's a small piece of the material on the cab at the bottom of the rear door opening, and the top edge of this piece is doing it too.

Anyway, what can be done about this? I imagine the only way to fix it is to remove the clear bra pieces and replace them with new ones, but how to keep it from happening again? Washing more often would help I'm sure but I'm not sure it would stop it completely. I know I don't wont a lot of wax or sealant build-up on the edges, but would a little of that help seal the edge where water can't seep under the clear bra?

Perhaps I don't need the clear bra at all? I'm not sure of the purpose of the small piece on the rear door jamb area but I assume the one on the fender flares is to protect from rocks chipping the paint. I have running boards so that may not be a concern.

I'd use something non-abrasive and a pure sealant. I've used Collinite 845 and didn't have super great results. It seemed as if dirt stuck to the vinyl-but to be fair I can't remember if Collinite was the first product that I applied to them. I'm using Zaino on another decal and I've haven't had an issue with dirt sticking to the vinyl at all. JW, Klasse, Zaino or Duragloss would probably work fine.

I have the factory z28 stripes on my 81

and have used the Klasse twins on them for a long time no problems yet!

Glad to hear your OE decals are still holding up well! The decals on my T/As of that vintage were sorta fragile; the engine designation on the hood/scoop was usually the first to go.

detail-newb- Not sure what the answer is....as soon as the edges aren't perfectly adhered there's the chance of stuff getting under there. I'll be dealing with the same stuff on my Denali XL as I had ebpcivicsi install a *lot* of protective film on it and some of the edges aren't perfectly adhered :nixweiss
