Tutle Wax Trying to step into High Class Line?

looking through the internet and found this. Turtle Wax Platinum Series

Ultra Gloss Paste Wax. The description says:

"Extraordinary formula of pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax combined with Bavarian Montan wax to provide maximum shine, perfect clarify and deep gloss to a car's finish. Formulated with fluoropolymer resins to fill in minor scratches and swirl marks. Layering several coats of Platinum Series Wax will further enhance the shine and clarity of the car's finish."

Any thoughts or comment from someone who has tried this?

I picked up a can of the paste about an hour ago. I just QEW'd the car and I'm going to try it in a few minutes.

According to the packaging, it is a carnauba/aminofunctional silicone/fluoropolymer blend. By that description, I suspect a Gold Class competitor.

I have to warn you, though, it's going to look great. My car looks great no matter what, because I polish and wax it constantly. It has NXT/GC/NXT on it now, and that's about a week old.

More useful will be how easy it is to use, etc. It costs about $8 per, liquid or paste.

You still have paint left on your car! :D

What about another test vehicle? I ask only because I don't see a point of putting it on top of a week old layer of NXT. I'm sure it'll look great.

What would be good is to polish another vehicle and apply the Turtle Wax, then post a review and / or a comparison to GC.

Just a thought. I'm curious either way :p

Confuse an out-of-town neighbor and do half of their car. With your Miata, you might as well spread the stuff on your bathroom mirror:D

And there comes the old rule.... Prep is 90%. After going thru a complete polishing process, the surface is as good as 90% of how it'll get. No matter what one tops with, TW, P21S or live it like that it'll look fine! This is the Autopian concept, isn't it?

Now, what I wonder is what TW has made to give those common people the chance to improve their cars finish without the right prep. :nixweiss It's a common people oriented product, isn't it?

I can't get the Malibu to sit still long enough to WASH it, let alone wax it!

I agree, the Miata isn't a good testbed right now.

jgv is going to be right, though, even if I strip the old wax off, because if I see any swirls or scratches I'm going to remove them. Twice a year I make the paint into "red glass" with the Menzerna twins. I could spit on it and wipe it around, anfd the car would look great.

The TWP is hazing right now. It goes on like any other semi-soft paste. I don't care too much for the smell, but someone else might like it; it's inbetween a natural smell and a chemical smell. It has mild cleaning capability, about the same as GC, which reinforces my impression that it's meant to compete there, at $2/can less than GC for 2oz more. I'm going to go down and buff it off in about 5, stay tuned.

OK, here you go!

Maybe 2004 will be the year of the decent consumer wax.

First; you should know that I come from an audio geek background. I'm used to sitting and listening to two amplifiers and hearing nuances of difference. Looking at car finishes after waxing is a lot like that, and I think you can train yourself to see differences.

It has cleaning properties, like I said; it reached down and pulled up a little bit of red, about as much as GC or NXT, but less than #20 or a true cleaner wax.

It is more reflective than NXT, but not quite as wet, it has decent depth for a consumer product as well, but less than the carnaubas we're used to. It is silky in appearance, more like MPPP; it has a satiny look to it. I'll be attaching pictures, you can see the satiny look in the hood pics I think. If someone was looking for a decent off the shelf wax, he or she could do worse than this.

What I DEFINITELY noticed was an ability to hide swirl marks. Like, what I was expecting from NXT.

Look in my pictures of the flank of the car; that is where they seem to have been hidden. I had a similar picture of the car taken outside a few weeks ago, I'll try to find it and attach it as well. Remember, as bright as halogens are, they aren't the sun.

Would it be too much to ask a few of you guys to invest $8 and a couple hours to see if you can duplicate that result? I'm not trying to hype the product. I'm trying to be accurate, and I want to know if anyone can duplicate my result.

A bit of zoom. With the NXT, the bulbs don't have that much of a silvery halo. I kind of like it.

I'm not allowed to link the swirls image more than once, so here is a link to the other thread in which I did that:

swirls

Keep in mind the obvious difference in lighting. But, I was TRYING to see the swirls with tonight's pictures. I'll try again after dinner, with different angles and lighting and resolutions.
