General Info

Had a chance to detail this afternoon in the beautiful mid 60s weather with SUN! (In the past about 80% of my details always involve me running to finish because of rain or clouds).

Vehicle
Vehicle was a BMW E36 M3 Red with lots of oxidation and contamination. The swirls and scratches didn’t kill me, but whew it was brutal.

Process

Exterior
Wash – Adam’s Wax & Wash.
Clay – Adam’s Clay
Polish – HiTemp Med Cut w/ Blue Edge then Adam’s Revive / SO with Light Green Edge
Sealed with Poorboy’s EX
Dressing – VRT on Trim and Molding

Result
Paint came out so clear and natural, it looked like brand new. I was horrified at how 4 sides of my buffing pads were dark red from the oxidation, even my finishing pad. After using Revive/SO I’m loving it and keep turning to the combo. The Medium Cut is NOT a product I like. Spreads a lot, but requires a lot of buffing and cleaning. I’ll stick to the PB/Adam’s polishes. (They are so easy and clean to use)

Pictures came out okay. You can see the haziness in the before shots. After shots made the car look clean. Might grab a rotary and a new camera, but we will see!

Anyone see the square? That was a spot the customer waxed with some cleaners (I’m hoping) prior to me polishing it. Nevertheless it was banished!

*EDIT* After reviewing the thread, shoot I need to upload these pictures a little differently.

Feel Free to ask or give any feedback. Time to go collapse.

That M3 looks great. It looks like you did an excellent job removing any defects it had.

Nice job. I love the way red cleans up. It's one of my favorite colors on a car, but I'm finding myself too old to be driving a red car.

Do you think that the Adams SO/Revive combo did the trick for the red or was the Hi-Temp cut really needed to make it look that good?

Looks great!!! PS what website do you use to load the pics like that?

AZ Ferrari:I tinkered around with SO/MC, afterawhile I decided to just stick with the Blue Edge w/ MC because it seemed alright. I needed something not too abrasive, but enough to get the oxidation out that really killed the look. I followed up with SO/Revive just to make sure there was no haziness and to improve the look further. I used PhotoBucket. I hope to get my website up with quite a few features to eliminate this uploading issue.

Thanks for the replies. Oxidation is a killer!

Outstanding job on the paint. It does look new again. I'm guessing with the oxidization and the red that was on your pads that the paint is SS? I would have thought it would have had clearcoat on it. Thanks for sharing with us.

You deserve a rest after that workout.

Ben,

Not quite sure, however it's probably pretty darn old. I need to relook my knowledge on oxidation, however it was crazy to see all the particles come out this morning.

Extremely nice work! I love red! :D

Anyhow, you might want to consider a dedicated chemical paint cleaner in the future to deal with the oxidation. If used properly the paint cleaner will do it's job very nicely and add a polishing step to the process to enhance the finish.

Wow what a transformation .Looks awesome. great job . You brought that beemer back to life . The clear must've been gone already . My '91 had no clear left when I bought it last year and it was red..but I had no problem buffing it out every other week..

Hi Boss... what about using a cleaner such as PG on the red? Would it have been too much for the red on the BMW or would it have his life a lot easier? :headbang

Boss,

I had in mind the condition of the paint prior to the owner's wax job, and I was ready to use AIO on it! :lol Thinking of it now, pretty sure there wasn't clearcoat on it after time. I think PG would of been okay, depends if its PC or rotary along with pad choice.

It's Bimmer :D

That's where a rotary user would know :D Either way I'm happy with a PC. But rotary hopefully will come.
