These products together for a detail?

Hello all! I have been searching through the forums reading all the information a newibe to the forum can. I am a previous Zaino user and was disappointed with its ability to eliminate swirls. I have always liked the depth a good carnuba wax offers, and wanted it back! Tell me what you think of the products below for my application.

Thanks,

Randy :wavey

Car Color: Black

Paint Condition: lots of swirls, scratches and paint overspray from a body shop who didn't tape off a section all the way.

Products to Use:

Zaino Car Wash ( have some left over and it's good stuff still )

Pro Care Beauty Products Medium Grade Clay

#34

#83 DACP (Applied with PC & w7000 polishing pad)

#82 SFP (Applied with PC & w7000 buffing pad)

AIO (Applied with PC & w8000 buffing pad)

S100 ( Applied by hand W/ Sponge applicator )

With the diminishing abrasives in DACP, I dont think you'll need to go to the SFP, plus the AIO will do a pretty neat tidy up job after the DACP.

And there is no need for the QD unless you are implying its use with the clay. *I* would probably QD with the #34 after the S100.

I am a relative Autopian amatuer so somebody else more experienced may chime in with better advice!

- Okay I will eliminate using the SFP then. I thought of using it to get rid of the hairline small scratches another member mentioned having after polishing his 740iL with DACP.

- Yes it's the lubricant for the claying.

Thanks for your help!

Following up with SFP will not hurt, but IMO the DACP with the AIO will set a pretty neat base. The only thing it will cost you is product and time. Its your call and as I said, someone a little more experienced will chime in and agree or tell you how wrong my advice was! :lol

pwr4all3,

You have your pad selection all wrong if the numbers you have provided are for Megs pads. 7000 is a cutting pad and 8000 is a polishing pad. The way your detailing plan is set up now you would be applying DACP with a polishing pad(8000) and following up with SFP and a cutting pad(7000) and then AIO with a cutting pad (7000). I don't know if you really intend to do it this way or if you mixed up the pad numbers by accident, either way it won't work for you. Useing a cutting pad as a last step will leave marring in the paint.

The way you should do it is,

DACP with a cutting pad if needed, you may just need a polishing pad.

SFP with a polishing pad or finishing pad

AIO with a polishing pad or finishing pad.

Yeap, I mixed up the part numbers, Good catch!

Welcome to Autopia Randy! :welcome

It looks like you've done a lot of reading and research already. Good for you! :xyxthumbs

A general rule or guideline that you may come across is to try the mildest solution first (on a small area) if you're unsure, and then move on to a stronger approach if that fails.

In this case, since you say the car has "lots of swirls" I think DACP is a reasonable place to start. Try it with a polishing pad first, and then a cutting pad if that doesn't get you results. Don't discount the SFP step all together. Just wait and see how it looks after you're done, especially if you've had to resort to using DACP/cutting pad. A pass with it probably won't really hurt anyway, but you could try skipping right to AIO too if you like, and see how that turns out.

Other than that, your plan is sound. Just be sure to budget enough time to do all of this! ;)

Good advice so far. Me? On black, I'd use TWO coats of Klasse SG before the S100. Really makes black 'pop', with the 'warmth' of carnauba.
