System One Polishing Video: Am I crazy

I see them too, Todd. His body position didn't look very comfortable either. I think if he positioned himself better that may have helped him control the machine a bit smoother. You could see him almost force the machine a couple of times.

The holograms are there. Haven't tried the new X3 but i was able to get a nearly

swirl free finish a few years ago with the original S1 (on fresh paint). It's not a

good "compound" for removing 1500 grit marks but does make an excellent

"polish" before "finishing." :)

With a wool pad and System One polish, I am not surprised at all. I hope he followed up with something. Oh wait, this is System One, isn't it?

Just think how bad it would look after a IPA wipedown.

I polished out this black AMG S65 in the full sun with SIP and UF. A little chatter with SIP/orange pad, but the UF was fine. I recall it was 80° or so that day as I got a nice sunburn.

The question is... So what?? I sweat my butt off in the shade. Why on earth would I want to polish out paint out in the blazing sun? Who really needs something like this? If I can pull it inside or get some shade I'm going to.. If I can't then I'll wait. Seriously what were these guys thinking... Just because you can dosen't mean you should.

Oh and definte holograming present there.

He finished with a foam pad though...

When I tried System One, I had the same problem, hologramming... I thought maybe I stunk (which is completely possible) but then I spoke to other high level pro's who have used it and they all said they couldn't get it hologram free.

This is to me expected as going from a full cut wool pad to a 100ppi foam pad is missing a couple steps...

I have been attacked by the few users of this product, and fine, I believe with practice I would get better with the product, no doubt.

But even there instructor is leaving holograms...

You're right. Someone interrupted me at the point in the video where he switched the pad around.

I think this product is marketed to body shops and other production environments where speed is King and results are secondary.

I don't see why you couldn't remove the holograms with UFSE and a black/red/blue pad. If holograms are the only problem with this product then it's probably pretty good.

I have never used this product-FYI.

I've gotten holograms on soft black paint with 106FF.

I've gotten tons of holograms with M105 on a wool pad.

I guess if your point is you cannot finish hologram free with System 1 then point taken, but everybody needs to know that there's a bunch of other products that don't finish out hologram free either.

Not trying to dispute Todd or any of the pros here...just trying to be fair.

Perfect factory finish paint! I'm going to use some system one on my car in an oven so it looks that good when I'm done.

:rofl:rofl:rofl

I don't care who you are, that right there is funny.

I'll throw in my couple of pennies about using System One.

First, the video was to show that you can "can" use their product in direct sun....not that shade or a shop environment would do better. I've had a few circumstances to use it in direct sun and it does work.

Holograms: wow!....I can't say I've ever had holograms from System One. And, yes, I do an alcohol wipedown after compounding to see if I've missed anything.

I suspect you folks that are experiencing holograming might not be working the product long enough on wool and/or cleaning your pad. I use a pad washer between each section of car I'm working on: door, quarter, trunk, hood, etc. I do this whether it's System One or 3M Extra Cut, or Perfect-It 3000, or Meguiar's 105. They all can build up in the fibers of the wool and create problems.

Try this if you get holograms: Work the product until you're satisfied with corrections, then switch to foam and spritz the pad with quick detailer only. This should clear away any product that's left on the panel and see if you get holograms.

I use System One a lot, but there are times when the dealer I recon BMW's for wants 3M Extra Cut (soon to be discontinued) used for heavy compounding.

Todd: If I can make my way to Florida, I'll bring my System One stuff and do a session with you.

There....I feel better!

Ok so the video was made to show the product can work in the direct hot sun.

Then I also gather that the video also shows if you work a product too quickly, you will have holograms?

If the product was worked for the proper length of time, would it dry out due to how hot the panel is?

I have heard that ZoranC has alot of experience with this product, maybe he will chime in.

lmao, now that my friend is funny!

fwiw I was not bashing system one, just sort of poking fun at a video which is designed to sell it, and if anything achieves the opposite (at least for me). I am sure when worked correctly it finishes down well. In direct sunlight with any polish you're going t have a hard time finishing clean. But the purpose of that video was to show "it can work on 155F paint". Maybe it can, but not in that video.

Richard please make it to Florida. I admit that I miss quoted you because I "thought" I remember you telling me you would get light hologramming... Maybe I mis interpreted what you told me.

I would love to hang out and learn a few tricks from Toto-Yoda :D
