Swirls!! After DA Kit.

Hi I used the megs DA MF kit, and it removed alot of the swirls. Now fast forward 3 weeks. I got more swirls and marks on the paint. They are minor but really visible(to me not my wife:wall)

My car is black acura, and usually hondas have a really thin clear coat.

I hear the MF kit removes a good amount of clear coat, so was thinking of using a yellow cutting pad and Ultimate compound, Any thoughts or a different route?

If I'm not mistaken Honda paint can also be soft. Siwrls on a black Honda are going to be near unavoidable. I wouldn't attack each swirl you see or soon you will be seeing primer. Yellow and UC is fairly aggressive. Be careful. I've been aggressive on Hondas and created issues. I actually had good luck with PO85RD and a crimson Hydro pad. No swirls there.

You may consider a coating like Opti Coat which will help make the surface stronger. However, swirls will still happen. You may just have to live with it. :(

Does the Total Polish and Seal by blackfire take out swirls? since I already have some I was thinking of using it with a light cutting orange or white pad. I might have to come to peace with the other marks.

Swirls are something you just have to live with when you have a black car. Your best defense is proper washing and drying technique and good quality materials. You simply can't keep polishing all the time, your clear won't last a year that way. Opti-Coat and other similar products help, but most swirls are from washing and drying.

Would Rinse wash help? Like BF WDRw or ONR

How are you caring for the paint while washing and drying? That maybe the start of your problem.

When you finished the job a few weeks back and where satisfied, then what you've done to the paint sense might be the cause.

Last wash was ONR, the wash before was

Griots soap, with grit guard in bucket. Rinse car first and get all dirt off, clean car with microfiber mit,

To dry I open all doors, hood, and trunk to let excess water run off. Then I pat down with megs water magnet. Then take a cobra or megs microfiber towel to dry the car completely.

Just a guess but ONR can be pretty ruff on the paint, that's my take on it.

What is a Meg water magnet? is that a towel?

beemer boy, do you have any recommendations on wash media or which no rinse car wash works the best.

I use Poorboys spray and wipe as a waterless wash. It can induce some marring but very little IMO. Depends on how dirty the car is, but nothing short of bucketing wash the car is best.

not knowing the paint on your car, I would say that its in the car care you are preforming that is your problem.

1) Yes BLACKFIRE Total Polish N Seal can remove minor paint perfections. If your paint is soft and the marring is shallow you will be all set.

2) I owned a black HHR that has extremely soft paint. Regular washing would always leave (LIGHT) swirl marks. I switched to weekly washing with ONR (using good technique) and the never had swirl marks again. ONR is extremely paint safe.

Okay, so lets diagnose where you are getting the marring from.

Wash your car in straight lines, say front-to-back on the hood, roof, and trunk & up to down on the sides of the car. Always touch the car in this motion.

When you dry the car, dry at a 90 degree angle to the wash marks. On the hood, trunk, and roof use a left-to-right/right-to-left motion and on the sides go side-to-side. Only dry the car in this motion.

When you see new marring appearing you will be able to quickly figure out if you are creating the marks during washing or drying and make adjustments accordingly.

IMO I don't think the OP problem is in polishing as much as its in how the car is washed and dried. He was satisfied with his results in polishing but a few weeks later the marring returned. Leads me to think its about how he is cleaning it. Or the product he is using has fillers and its only masking the marring until a few washes later

Iam thinking you are right. When I wash I use one bucket with grit guard. I will be switching to 2 buckets. I will live with the swirls and marks for now and will do correction again in 2 months or so.

The next time I do correction I DO NOT want to use a compound cause the clear on Acura is extremely soft on my new black one. I was thinking of a orange pad or white pad with Megs 205 or Blackfire SRC polish. Any thoughts?

I actually have 2 Acuras and my older one which I have never done paint correction still looks great (12 years old with 170k miles and its pearl white so swirls are kinda hidden)

Todd what is the correct way for ONR? Last night I did ONR on my white car. I did 3 capfuls (32 oz cap so I believe its like 22ML per cap) to 2 gallons. I used a plush microfiber and started from roof, hood, then trunk and sides.

I kinda felt the ONR didnt have enough lube. I might pick up the Blackfire rinseless, reviews I have read says it has more lube to it, true?

It is 1/2 oz per 2 gallons.

If you have never used it, it will not feel the same as washing with soap. I never get the same "slickness" feeling. It does not feel slick between the fingers like a soap does.

Another thing to understand, I've owned three jet black cars. All of which where hard to keep pristine the way I like it, which is heads above the average person. Comes with being anal and a detailer.

I learned to live with a certain amount of marring in the paint between polishings and that was twice a year for full correction and twice a year for minor. One thing that became my friend in this was a glaze that has a filler that I applied with a orbital buffer, finishing pad on med spin. Worked very well into the paint, it would mask that marring, then I would top that off with sealant (two coats with cure time) then a paste wax to maintain, before I did the next polishing.

The glaze I liked was Poorboys Black Hole and FK1 Pink Glaze.

I'm not a fan of fillers in products but as long as you know how they can be used they can save a lot of headaches, in appearance

Great Idea, :yourrock

So next month, Use the Poorboys with the white pad? Then 2 coats of BFWD or should I use Total Polish and Seal?
