Sonus Pads or Lake County Pads for PC?

hi, i just got the Sonus pads, there great quality, 4 pads to choose from not 3, plus u get a couple microfiber bonnets and a cd guide with it. Just my opinion!:xyxthumbs

I own both LC and Sonus pads, both will get the job done nicely.

I prefer the Sonus pads, mainly because IMHO the design is better. The Sonus pads are flat and have "wrap around sides" (to protect your painr from damaged vcaused by coming into contatc with the backing plate) and a very wide velcro backing (to protect from damage to the foam caused by the backing plate).

If you do decide to go with the Sonus pads the use the coupon code "SONUS" to get 15% off the price of the pads (or any other product in the Sonus range)

It sounds like you used the 6 inch LC pads. The 7.5 inch LC pads also wrap around.

I have the 6 inch and the 7.5 inch LC pads, but I'm always looking for better tools and methods. Disregarding the "wrap around" feature (which Sonus and 7.5 LC both have), does the Sonus flat pad work better than LC pads?

Regards,

Dan.

Nice to meet you Dan! Did you really have to quote me in your post :o hehehe that will teach me to try to type a message while I am talking on the phone. Multi-tasking never was one of my strong points!:lol

On the pads, both the Sonus pads and the LC pads I purchased from CMA work very well, I just prefer the Sonus pads and they seem to work better for me

Let me explain. I was almost out of the LC variable contact pads I had been using and after reading up on the subject at Autopia, I decided that I wanted to try using flat pads with my PC. When I looked, the only flat pads with the wrap-around sides were the Sonus pads, so I purchased some.

I quickly found that I like working with the flat Sonus pads more than VC LC pads. With the heavier LC VC pads (like the orange pad) you actually have to press down quite hard to get the whole pad in contact with a flat panel, with the Sonus pad the whole surface of the pad is in contact with the panel with almost no pressure.

Some other noticeable differences include:

The Velcro backing on the Sonus pads extends for a good 1/2" beyond the backing plate. On the LC pads I have, the Velcro only extends for about 1/8" beyond the backing plate.

The Sonus pads have a softer curved leading edge on the face of the pad than the LC pads I have, making it slightly easier to move the pads across irregular shaped panels.

At the thinnest point, the Sonus pads are around 3/8" thicker than the LC VC pads I have. To me a thicker pad is better and safer, at least up to a point.

OK! I have probably given you much more information than you wanted, so let me finish with this. I think the Sonus pads ARE better, but not by such a margin that I would suggest buying them if you still have other pads to use. What I would suggest is, when the time comes to buy new pads, you consider the Sonus pads, I think they are a great buy especially if you are looking at trying a flat pad.

Of course, If like me you are completed hooked on finding the best products to use, you could just buy one Sonus polishing pad next time you place an order with Autopia! (I'd like to think there is someone out there who shares my addiction!) :lol

Good luck with whatever you decide :)
