Signature Detailed-Acura CL

Greg Gellas

I'm Greg :)
Quick little write up :D I had a customer scheduled to one step his Acura CL. I have worked on this car before and he isn't the most gentle with his paint, for some reason he loves the tunnel washes :D Needless to say it wasn't in great shape after a year. In fact I think other than the tunnel washes the car hasn't been touched.

The Sun came up quick, I had to move briskly to make sure the soap didn't dry on the paint. I continusly spray it down to make sure it stayed wet. I washed with a 50/50 of CG wash and clear and Dawn. Wheels were taken care of with CG Diablo gel and a couple of ez-detail brushes.

After I washed I snapped some more pictures to see exactly what I was dealing with. The dirt was nice and his alot of the scratches and swirls :( Worse than I expected, although I know I wasn't going for 100% correction I wanted to get at least 75-80% correction. I knew I needed an aggresive yet still a compund that would finish down nice enough not to have to go back over the paint again.

Knowing honda paint, I decided to go after it with some Menzerna 203 and an orange pad. I wiped it down and then I did some 50/50's to see acutal correction. Pulled it back into the sun the ensure I could see everything on the paint. I decided I was getting excellent correction with just that so I went at it :D

After polishing, the entire car was wiped down with IPA, twice. I followed up with BFWD sealant, I topped it with some Optimum spray wax to add some slickness. Tires were dressed with Opti bond tire gel. Wheel wells were hit with some Fade2Black.

You can see the one deeper scratch that wouldn't come out unless I decided to wetsand it...

As always thanks for looking...Greg

Nice work! I have 2 Jap cars also and 203 is about all you need to put most things back to good order!

Nice colour on that Acura too!

Great work ... I'm surprised you didn't get any hazing with 203 and an orange pad. Did you use a DA or rotary?

Thanks....No hazing...DA with a 5.5" or 4" for the tighter spots.... Never had a issue with 203 hazing. :) Used that process on my own grey TSX never a problem :D
