Removing paint

So the lovely co. that i work for did not even have the decency ( sp ? ) to inform us there would be exterior bldg maintenance going on....

therefore my brand new, freshly detailed black truck has small white/gray paint specs on it....

clay did not remove it ( possibly not aggressive enough ) and neither did QD ....i didnt want to rub too hard using AIO....that didnt work

help me out guys :angry:furious:

There is a product from Goo Gone that I use successfully to remove paint transfer from bumper scrapes. I'm sure it is some type of paint thinner, so all residue should be cleaned from the surface. I have never had any issues with it. Welcome to the Goof Off Website

will harsh cleaners like that dry out the paint ??? i was hoping there would be a product that is paint safe and hopefully wouldnt remove my LSP

Try a more agressive clay and/or paint cleaner (AIO, ColorX, etc). Maybe even Tarminator. I wonder what kind of paint they used? It strange that you just detailed and its not coming off. If those don't work its time for something stronger like a mild paint thinner.

i applied CMW like 3 weeks ago.....they are painting the exterior of a concrete bldg.... so who knows what kind of industrial stuff they are using....

i didnt want to marr the finished by pressing too hard with the AIO.

apparently i am not the only person here, and they are pissed too.

Hey Gav:

That's why your company has business insurance. I'd hit them up for the cost of a professional detailing job or a reimbursement for your time and materials if you do-it-yourself.

I'd also get your co-workers involved in this "class action suite" so it doesn't look like you're the only one with the "problem".

If your company's insurance doesn't want to do this, the next step is to contact your auto insurance. When you tell them your story, your agent or insurance adjusters may have more clout in contacting your company's insurance to pay up.

Hopefully your company will accept its responsibility in this matter.

Keep us posted on how this turns out

thanks for the legal advice.... I removed it, with something I won't discuss on here.... and re waxed the panels....

when other employees got wind of my issue, they started looking at their cars, and sure enough, little specs all over....some worse than others...

the head painter guy walked around with our warehouse mgr and told everyone to get a hand car wash and go from there.... i guess the painting co. is going to cover that..... funny, my truck was waxed within 3 weeks and this stuff did not come off easily... what makes them think that neglected finishes will have better luck.

they should pay me to detail the cars.... they could save some $ while i make some !!!

Come on Gav!

"...something I won't discuss here..."? I assume you fear that that information might get back to your company.

If what you won't discuss really worked for you to removing an industial-type paint, it would be nice to learn what and how you did it, including the chemicals and process you used.

By the way, what wax did you use to re-wax te panels with??

i'm, not worried about it getting back to my company.... F them !!!

i fear being shutout of the detail world...... but it all honesty....

1. washed the truck with lambs wool mitt and megs GC

2. dry with MF WW

3. attempted to clay, nothing

4. tried eagle one QD, nothing.

5. i hate to admit it, brake cleaner on a MF towel...

6. spot wash with ONR

7. re wax with OCW

no swirls, mars, drying of the paint and with all the rain we have gotten, beads like a mother !
