Quick Wash

I've been detailing at an office complex for about a month now so I've been offering a quick wash for $25. Currently it's taking me between 30-60 mins for a wash with the average being 45 mins and I think it should be going much faster. What is slowing me down is the wheels so I'm looking for some ideas on how to wash faster.

Currently I use QEW on the whole car including the wheels and if the wheels are bad I'll use a wheel cleaner and just rinse them off with the QEW solution.

What I was thinking of doing was to use an electric pressure washer. Basically I would spray on the wheel cleaner and let it sit for a minute. Then spray the whole car with a car wash solution from the pressure washer. Wash it with a wash mitt. Rinse it with the pressure washer and then dry it.

I have a 65 gallon water tank which I can refill during the day if I have to but I'd like to keep my water consumption down. I also have a generator so electricity is not a problem. Anyone have some advice? Thanks.

Spraying the wheels and fenderwells with a pressure washer would work well. You might want to try pre-cleaning with QEW then blasting off the wheels. Line up all the cars you are doing and get the wheels and fenderwells first, then go back and QEW wash the cars.

If you are doing one car at a time, it is going to take you longer. If you line them up and do each process (wheels, wash, vac, etc) one right after another on all the cars, you get a better rythym going.

Chris,

It sounds like you expect to make the same amount of money per hour for washing cars as you do for detailing them. That may not be possible no matter how fast you think you can wash a car.

The difference between what you think you can make per hour washing cars compared to detailing them is like the difference between what people are willing to spend for eating at a low cost fast-food restaurant as compared to eating at a high priced gormet restaurant.

Cars gotta be washed too Frank, thats part of detailing. People want you to take care of their car, that includes washing it.

I can wash a normal sized car in 35 minutes using QEW, including vacuuming out the interior and dressing the tires. Its just a question of getting a rythym going. I charge $35 for a wash and I'd say I make the same per hour washing as I do detailing.

Steve-the key to the rythym is lining up the cars and doing the same thing to each car down the line, ie wash the body, wipe down door jams, clean fenderwells and wheels, clean glass, dress.
