Well, I have a CR-V EX 2004 with the stock 15" rims on it. I haven't broken out my polishing ball (you are correct, it's Mother's) but in just looking at it, I don't think it would get into every surface, especially around the lug nuts. This why I do a full polish when I put the tires on after removal of the snow tires. I did that with PB's ProPolish, followed by VM on the outer and inner surfaces of the wheel. Unless you are a young, flexible person (I'm 49 and post 4 surgeries on my left knee) doing a thorough polishing on the wheels while still on the car can be tough on the detailer's own parts. I get in around the tight, small spaces with a Q-tip, sometimes covered with a thin MF. I think the job could be best done with something like a Dremel tool with some of those nifty attachments. I haven't bought one yet as I have maintained my wheels in good shape since I bought the car new. I think the job on really dirty wheels would be facilitated by proper use of an acid based wheel cleaner, which I don't have. I am able to clean with 1:5 or so APC, a wheel brush and Qtips. Now that I have PB's wheel sealant, I think I will skip the VM (I imagine it would not facilitate bonding and the WS leaves a wonderful gloss anyway).
