Pics of the nightmare paint.

It's hard to believe that was painted 3 years ago. I guess with el-cheapo sponges and not really knowing what I know now becomes swirl city. Not anymore.

I bought some Meguiars #2, 3m Fine cut compound, and 3m swirl mark remover for dark paint.

I tried all 3 on a grey pad, didnt make a difference. I then tried #2 on a green pad. It helped some. I then went to an orange pad, it helped a bit more, but hazed the paint bad.

So I decided to try the fine cut compound on a green pad. It did a better job than the #2.

Finally I tried the swirl mark remover for dark paint. I first tried it on a green pad and it didn't do much at all. I then got a yellow pad and that was the trick. I started off on speed 2, then moved it up to speed 5. I kept the surface damp with water & QD. I worked one section at a time until I got the results I wanted. I used a 1,000,000 cp spotlight & a 500w halogen to spot swirls...lol A bit extreme but it worked well.

The paint was hazed a bit, just didnt have any shine. It looked like a faded black car.

From that point I went to the Menzerna line. I used the FP II on a blue pad on speed 4.5 over the car. This really got a shine back, but was still lacking depth.

Once I was finished, I then used the Menzerna Glaze. I used a grey pad on speed 3.5/4.0 This was the trick. The paint was VERY VERY deep, glossey, and black as soot. Just like it used to be.

I topped it with FMJ pulled it out into the sun and wow. Only a VERY few swirls. Nothing like what was there before. I'm totally impressed. Menzerna line has been the best I've worked with so far.

More pics to come---

the specs on the the hood shot is dust from where I drove across the field to get the pics.

VERY good job!

Thanks for the play by play on what you tried. It helps a newbie like me to better understand the process :)

I'm just as new, I was kinda "skittish" at first but once you get the hang of it, it's balls to the wall.

I was amazed at how the menzerna line makes it look, especially on black!

Thanks for the good words.

If I only had before/after pics I could put it in for an entry.

you really have progressed well. your work on this vehicle shows that you are learning and achieving.

i have GM products and am impressed at the mirror like look that you have acheived. wish i that i mite have done the same. you are an incentive to keep trying.

I was almost to the point of stopping. When i was using some of the chemical (I forgot which one specifically), it produced more swirls and marring---I got a bit worried then said the hell with it.

I then tried in a spot on the hood the full process....and then figured which products to use, using which pad. When I got a combo that I was happy with, I used that for the entire car.

I then realized, if I screw it up, it can be fixed....look at some of the car's that some of the men have done on here. They're 50x worse than mine was and the end result looks like it's brand new!

After the 2nd wash and 1st rain it looks as if the paint has lost the depth to it, and looks like it is hazed a bit.

Can someone elighten me on what I need to do?
