So a few weeks ago I had some PDR work done on my hood and roof. Not giant dents, but enough to irritate me. I shopped all the PDR shops in town for an estimate, and settled for one nearby. Their price was 1/3 of the other guys. They have been in town a while and operate out of a garage on a well-traveled road. The lead guy says he's been doing this for over 20 years.
When I got the car back, I looked it over to ensure everything was ok. When they took the hood off to put on the stand, they didn't protect the underside and scratched it in several places. His reply: "well, most cars nowadays have an insulator pad underneath that would've protected it." It didn't bother me much; I can use touch-up paint on it (The car is dark grey metallic).
When I got it home and washed it, I cleaned the inside windows. That's when I noticed the inside of the rear window's tint film was scratched in several places. I know it was nothing I did. Atop some of the scratches was a sticky film, which I think came from either the headliner or tape wrapped around the trim removal tools. They were at a uniform height from the window top which supports my theory.
When driving, they're hard to notice, except when the sun is behind the car, at which time the scratches "light up" and are more noticeable.
I called the shop back to inform them of the scratches, and was told that they couldn't have done that, but agreed I could bring the car back. It looks like they're going to deny it even with proof.
So, what would you do? I'm taking the car back to have 2 dents popped out which they missed the first time (and would require dropping the headliner again). Should I ask them to pay for replacing the tint? They should be responsible for the damage they caused while doing their job.
If they had not scratched the tint or the hood paint, I would be singing songs of their awesomeness at PDR.
If anyone wants to know the city and name of the place I'll post it.
