Need a very light PC polish suggestion...

I have a '68 Camaro with red single stage paint. It was professionally polished with a rotary by a member of Autopia about 5 years or so and came out almost perfect. Over the past few years, it's developed some light swirls from glazing & waxing and such. The paint is basically almost defect free.



What's the lightest/most gentle product I can use with a PC that just has a very, very slight cutting ability. I don't need much at all. I was thinking of going with Menzerna's PO85RD polish. Would that be a good choice?



Also, would a Blue LC or a Gray LC Pad work for this or would I actually need to step up to a white polishing pad?

I don't know much about SS paint, but I would start with something like Klasse AIO and see where that gets you. A product like that along with some slight mechanical cut from a white polishing pad might be exactly what you need.
 
My understand of M80 is that it has some glaze in it and hence some fillers as well. I don't want to hide the minor imperfections to any degree, I want to remove them, so what I was searching for is what to use in terms of a "pure polish".



I plan on applying a glaze AFTER the polishing step.

Note that "pure polish" is how Meguiar's refers to their glazes. Just pointing that out so we don't muddy the waters any.



I wouldn't use KAIO for this since you want some cut.



For what you want (and FWIW, that's not how *I* would handle it) Menzerna would be a good choice. The FPII is even more gentle but any of their finising polishes oughta work fine.



I'd try a gray/black finishing pad and only use a polishing pad if you need to.
 
i have no experience with #80, but i can adress your issue with it containing fillers.. after you do a pannel, do an ipa wipedown ( 50-50 mix of water and isopropyl alcohol) to remove those fillers and show your real results. you should wipedown reguardless after polishing because the oils in polish can negativeley affect how well the wax bonds to your paint.
 
I have used m82 with PC and gray pad, it worked fine on my b/c. It is an extremely light polish but finishes by PC very well. It also leaves the paint squeaky clean after a use, not oily.



85RD is a ceramiclear polish, FPII would be more gentile.



As far as pads, you may need both.

I don't like using IPA wipedowns/etc. on ss all that much, and IME the oils/etc. that Meguiar's stuff leaves behind can be downright beneficial on some ss paints.



I dunno...with waxes (as opposed to certain sealants), I never have any issues from oils/glazes/etc. on the paint :nixweiss

I too think the FPII is a good choice if using Menzerna stuff, but FWIW, *generally* the ceramiclear-polishes work fine on single stage if you use mild ones. Nice uniform cut, they just cut a bit quicker/more easily than old-school abrasives.
 
Another suggestion is PB's Polish with Sealant. Very mild polish and a pretty durable sealant in one step.
 
The person asked for the lightest polish because not much cut was needed so why is Megs#80 being recommended when it certainly is not the lightest cutting polish.
 
I've decided to go with Optimum Finish Polish on a blue LC pad. I'll make sure to try and tak some before/after pics...

Well, to remove them, you might need something slightly more aggressive than 85 RD with a zero cut pad......



I'd split up a single panel into three sections and experiment......



White pad, gray pad with maybe M FF, M151, M FA.......



I just noticed you chose OFP with blue. Let us know if that combo removed any light swirls......

P21S Paintwork Cleanser is a very mild polish and perfect to start with on a polishing pad.

I would normally recommend the 85RD on LC Blue or LC Red, however, for even lighter cut, you can try the Pinnacle XMT on LC Blue.
