Mytee 8070 (Mark II) Vacuum question (possible low suction)

Hello fellow Autopia members

Over the weekend I 'scored' a used Mytee 8070 (think Mk2) that the user said worked fine except he felt the vacuum didn't produce the lift it once did. I came to test the unit before purchase and the pump, heater and vacuum all turned on and appeared to work.

I felt the suction and it did seem kind of weak, but I wasn't worried about it as I could easily replace the motor if needed. Well I get home and start messing around with the unit (just a closer inspection really) I noticed the seal in the waste tank looks really bad and should be replaced (see attached picture) after putting the lid back on I could turn on the vacuum and put it against my hand it could easily suck it self against my skin unassisted and not fall off.

Could I just be dealing with bad seals? Honestly the motor sounds fine

BTW paid $400 and a 45 minute drive one way for the unit. So I thought I did well, just some minor things I will probably change/replace

Mark

I guess that seal could be the problem, if the recovery tank is actually holding the vacuum like that...it's making my brain hurt thinking about that.

I always wanted to get one of those, what is that, about half the cost of a new one? I think the main reason I never did it was the reliability and customer service horror stories that would always get posted here.

What is that 2nd picture of??? Whatever is all the way around it looks really bad... What is that junk all the way around it???
I have a different model, that has a fine screen inside the fresh water tank over the pipe that sucks the water out to go to the attachment... The water recovery tank has a long, fine, cloth filter that filters junk out as well... My unit has never had a suction problem. I believe my unit has 3 motors under there and they all work great... Extracted on average, a little over 100 vehicles a year, for many, many, years, and it's still going strong... Do not run it without having it full of water in the water tank... One more thing -- Used Carefully,, this extractor is great for convertible tops... )

That is the inside of the 6" lid. I think that gasket has seen it's better days.....I just got of chat with Mytee and they agree that is probably the cause to the low suction.....$3.50 part. :)

New, on the Mytee website they are listing for $1,490, so I was willing to take the risk. They do seem to have a problem with answering emails and I don't see a phone number for them but they pick up quickly on the online chat. This is my second unit, I also own a S300H that I purchased new a couple years back.

Nice thing about them......you can fix everything yourself and all the internal parts are generic items you can get online/amazon.

Oh...I guess I had the 870 in my brain (I told you it hurt) and was thinking the price was around that. Sounds like a good deal for $400 plus a 3.50 gasket.

Got in last week and installed over the weekend the new waste container gasket, suction level definitely has improved. Now looking for something to test the entire unit out on :)

Going to do another post showing the general 'clean up' I did to the unit.
