Menzerna Question

I really want to try Menzerna polishes but I am unsure which ones to purchase. I would really like to buy a medium cut and finishing polish, would I need more than 2? What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

I agree. I like them both. They make a polish finer than the 106ff (PO87MC). I have yet to use it. Anyone have any experience with it?

Oh and make sure you order SIP not IP.

ive used the 87mc (Final Polish II) and i found that it finishes off darker color vehicles better. you cant tell the difference between 87mc and 106ff on lighter colored vehicles, at least i cant anyway. it has VERY LITTLE cut.

Interesting.

What pad/machine did you use with the 87?

I've tried 91 (IP) 106 and FFII, even though 106 cost more, I reach for IP and FFII most all the time. Most of my details are simple wash/wax and a few needing a light polish to get rid of some oxidation and slight swirls. Well, I had this 2002 Lexus with deep scratches on the hood where the owner had set a cardboard box and slid it picking it back up - just enough weight in the box and sand on the bottom to rake a nice section about 2"x1". I started to get out the rotary, but the small size and the fact that my rotary uses 7.5" pads had me thinking to try the PC, 5.5" low profile orange LC pad and a good size dab of IP, it took three tries but the scratches came out and man - that paint got hot where I had been working. I let it cool, wiped it down with a clean towel and went over the whole hood (and car too) with FFII, 5.5" low profile white LC pad. Looks were great! Topped with Z2 and delivered to a happy customer.

Unless you have very heavy, deep swirls, I would think the Final Polish II would work well for you; I've used it on my black BMW and am very happy with the results before going to Menzerna FMJ as my LSP.

I use 4" orange pads from excel detail + PC to do correction on my black VW (using Danase Swirl Abolisher II or SSR2.5). I then switch over to white LC 6.5" pad and FPII to remove haze/micromarring for a flawless finish. I have yet to see the need to jump on the SIP boat.

flex w/ lc black, have used white when testing but havent seen a need to. I follow the IP with 87 and have had no problem with the black. Maybe if i was using SIP or something a little more agressive i would have to use the white.

So SIP has enough cutting power to get rid of defects and 106 FF can remove the left over imperfections for an LSP ready finish? What is a good to use to prime the pad with menzerna, water?

I don't use anything, just start off with a bit more polish than you normally use and cut back next time you apply. You can use a tiny amount of water on IP if it starts to dust.

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. So SIP and 106FF are good? 106FF will remove all defects caused by SIP correct?

yes!

Just go and order it. Those 2 polishes will correct almost anything you throw at them.

I use Danase Pad Conditioner and found it to work great, much better than water or a Quick Detailer; it cut down significantly on the dusting from IP. To answer the original question, I use IP and Finish with Micropolish (87MC) with a gray pad and the results have been amazing.

I feel obligated to contribute to this subject, as I haven't contributed much lately, and I've personally used many gallons of each of Menzerna's products. Here's my take (rotary):

PO106FF is the best polish ever made. FPII used to be my go-to polish, PO106FF not only finishes down noticably better (I judge all polishes on how easily they finish down on black cars without halograms), but also cuts significantly faster - well worth the extra coin. With that said, I very much like FPII via a wool pad for medium cutting duties. On most colors/clears, I can take a heavy compound via a black wool pad and "tear up" the paint with nasty deep halograms, and then make quick few passes via 106FF and a foam pad and have a perfectly swirl-free surface...that wasn't possible before 106FF.

I like SIP too, but to the best I can guage/estimate, I only get an extra 10-20% cut over 106FF, and in most cases that isn't worth it for me given the extra difficulty in working with and cleanin up SIP.

Don't even consider IP, it's old news. It swirls the paint up pretty heavy and probably doesn't offer any more cut than SIP. I still have a bunch left over that I'll probably never use.

RAG, I have some very light marring on a dark 2007 BMW. I tried Sonus SwirlBuster going with the least abrasive first and it didn't seem to do much. Will Menzerna 106 followed up by FPII do the trick?

Thanks,

Chris.

RAG, I'll be more than happy to take IP off your hands :D (I am not too far from you). Results obtained last week with IP on very soft paint with an orange pad.
