PLEASE HELP!!! The past few days have been VERY windy here in Western MD. Well, first it is dusty as it is where I park at work because of construction. The past two days have been horrible. I took off the nose mask from the hood and one part is black, the uncovered part - almost white from dirt!

Now you guys have to understand that I can't possibly wash my car everyday. This amount of dirt was way too much to try to remove with the Cal. Duster. I figured I would come home and wash. Nope - it is sooo windy today and the wind chill is in the 20's! I would have gotten dust all over it again!

Here is the bad part - as I am looking over my car (ritual looking for bird crap and other stuff), I noticed that my car is covered in tiny (VERY TINY) speckles. (White, some light beige) This is the first time I have ever seen this - don't know if it from a factory, trees, or what. I can't get it off. I tried a few things in one small area - water, QD, Cleaner Wax, Scratch X, Clay Bar, etc. Nothing will take this stuff off! My car looks ridiculous!

After all of the hours I put on this thing last weekend - washing, cleaning paint, polishing, and waxing I just don't even want to do it ever again. I thought wax was supposed to protect paint from the elements, but now I think it is just useless!

I don't know what to try - I am just at a loss for words. I really liked my car, too.

:(

You say you used clay? That is the usual "cure" for fallout. Can you feel it with your fingernail? or is it flush with the paint? A picture may help....

H

that the clay wouldnt work at all....like bigboy was asking...can you feel it with your fingernail....i had some of these white specks from a nearby construction site...had to get each one off with my fingernail.....if its not under the wax you put on this past w/e then it should come off....someone here will help ya figure it out...relax....you should always want to re wax the whole thing less than a wk after you just did it...:D

Yuck... I feel for you. This happened to my red convertable, and still does happen. At first I thought it was the paint from our house (the chips were light yellow or off-white, same color as the house). But I'm not so sure... Usually, to get it off, I just used lots of water and my fingernails. I think they were soft enough after being soaked.

It took forever, especially on the bad cases of the, shall we call it, spots. But it got them off.

Today I noticed a lot of dirt from spray for the tires, but I don't think it was the same thing. I'm going to look at it tomorrow and make sure it comes off. :(

Let me know if it works!

Josiah

I can get the tannish/ beige spots off pretty easily, but I will have to make sure that I try to do a very thorough job so that I get them all. They come off very easily from the windows. If I try to wipe at them lightly with my finger I notice that they sort of smear. So I guess that rules out paint. However, on the rear, right of my car I have the small white speckles. These are hard - don't smear or anything. I think these may be paint. But again, I have no clue. They come over with a lot of work - very light scratching with the fingernail, but I hate to do this. I also hate the fact that I am going to be scratching for the next ten years!

I tried to take a picture, but it is dark and I can't get enough lighting in the garage to get a good enough pic. Maybe tomorrow. The wind is supposed to die down Sunday, so I am washing this car. I will report back. Maybe a nice wash will help some marks.

I used Blitz followed by Gold Class. I also use Meguiar's QD frequently.

Thanks everyone! :)

You say clay doesn't work, but a fingernail does? What clay did you use and what procedure? Clay should remove the visible fallout on your paint..

I have the Meguiar's Clay. I spray it with Meguiar's QD and then rub the area with the clay bar. I rub back and forth, but not too hard and not too much or the clay seems to stick and get gummy like chewing gum. Maybe I am doing it wrong. This is only the second time I've tried it.

Others have mentioned problems with Meguiar's clay kit. I'd recommend Mothers clay bar kit next time you need clay, it's much better. In any case, spray *plenty* of QD on the panel you wish to clay first and rub back and forth. The clay should stick somewhat at first but should become easier to move as the contaminants are removed. Be sure to frequently reform the clay bar so you aren't rubbing the crud back into your paint!

Blitz my not offer you the protection your circumstances call for.

Consider a sythetic sealant system, Klasse is best if you're going to stick to Blitz. You Blitz over the Klasse and it will make your car easier to clean.

As for spot checking. You should spot check everyday, cause when contaminants set in they stain and do damage. QD as soon as you can, let set a little and wipe off with a nice plush microfiber towel.

Hope this helps, Steve

I think if you use Gold Class after Blitz, the Gold Class will strip the Blitz as I beleive it has cleaners in it. Id look into getting a bottle of Klasse AIO, as its much more suited to dealing with Industrial Fallout.

Ok.... I am going to disappear now and search through all of the posts for info on towels, Zaino, Klasse, and P21S. I need to figure all of this out before I decide what I am going to do.

Boy, am I confused....

As always, thanks for all of the help

:p

Went through tons of old posts. Learned some pretty interesting stuff. I am going to order some Charisma Select towels tomorrow. I am also going to order a new wash mitt - either chanille or microfiber.

You guys may get mad, but I have to tell you... I bought the cheap MF towels from Auto Zone and I love them! I have a black car and I have watched myself rub and rub and I've looked for scratches - none. I don't know. I have a really hard time paying $8.00 for something that can cost $2.50. Well, maybe I'll order a Viper just for the heck of it and see how much better it is.

Okay - about my spotted car. I washed it today - windy and about 30 degrees, but I had to. I got some of the majority of the spots out - they come off really easy from the windows, but require a bit more work everywhere else. I still think I have two different things on there - the passenger side has white speckles that will NOT come off and the entire car had the beige speckles. I don't know. I want to try another brand of Clay bar beside Meguiar's - see if I have more luck. What do you recommend - Pinnacle or Mother's?

Oh yeah, I am holding off buying Zaino or Klasse right now - I am going to order Blackfire when it comes out instead.

<strong class='bbc'>I have a black car and I have watched myself rub and rub...[/b]</blockquote>

I live in California, and I think I heard your paint screaming from here! But in all seriousness, you might want to try looking at the area you rubbed under a very bright fluorescent light (i.e. in a dark garage). You may not see scratches per se, but you almost certainly <em class='bbc'>will[/i] see light swirl mark type scratches. People tested the Miracle Towels, aka the legendary magical MT's, with the CD scratch test and got scratches after 40 to 50 passes. Meaning that plush-seeming cheapo NicSand or whatever you got would definitely scratch quicker.

I'm not saying the CD test means your cloth will scratch paint, I'm just warning you to be careful. Your paint is much more fragile than it seems and I'd be much more selective than that in the future about what you allow to touch it.

Then again, anyone who comes into my car gets a lecture about how to properly ride in and act around it in order to keep me from attacking them for hurting my baby:)

Oops, to answer your question: Mothers clay is great for an OTC product, I have heard many good things about it. Haven't heard much about pinnacle clay, try a search

sorry for rambling,
puterbum

I've herd that the Pinnacle Poley can be hard to use , it may gum up like the Meguiar's. Go with the Mothers or 3M clay. A good clar bar should remove the contamination without much effort.

Don't be cheep with MF towels get good ones , you'll thank me later.

:bounce :bounce :bounce

Okay, okay, I am just going to be crazy and do it!!!!

But before I order the MF towels... I read a few posts about the ones they sell at neatitems.com. Are these good or should I just buy Miracle towels? I saw a few other posts where people thought the Miracle towels were not as good anymore? Any opinions?

I've seen Viper, Miracle, Magic, and Ultimate - which one? Just tell me and I will buy it right away and save the cheapo's for my window film and dusting tables in my house.....

:D

The MF's everyone talks about as being the best towel out there are the MT's (Miracle Towels) available at CMA or www.yosteve.com . Check a site for availability, the good nonlinting ones are not currently available but will supposedly come in soon! The Viper and the neatitems ones are not as plush as the MT's.

If you don't want to make the leap to buy these towels, I hear the neatitems towels are the next best substitute to the real thing.

Thanks puterbum!

Hey, what is the best way to clean these? I've been washing and rinsing them by hand with a gentle dishwasing detergent.

Is it ok to throw these in the washer? (Liquid det., of course)

And if so, what types of other rags/ towels should they be washed with or without?

You can't do them wrong by handwashing with a good gentle detergent as you are doing. Whatever you do, don't:

-Wash them with any other towels. The poor little microfiber will try to 'clean' all of the lint off of the other cloths and will be rendered mostly useless.

-Use fabric softener of any sort with your microfiber. This will also damage the cloth by leaving a film on it that hampers its absorbency and causes it to film when used on glass or paint. No dryer sheets either!

DO Dry on very low heat or better yet, hang dry.

Goody, goody, goody!

I have been handwashing and letting them hang to dry. Please tell me, is Palmolive (sp) okay to use? It is just the regular kind, nothing anti-bacterial or full of fragrance? Or what about Woolite or something else. I don't wnat to go putting anything oily in the rag - anything that will leave residue.
