Just got PC 7336, now for the rest

I am pumped that thanks to the many autopians here I just picked up a PC 7336 from Lowes. I have read what seems like a million threads on backing plates and pads and polishes. The more I read the more confused I get so I thought I would throw out my situation and see if anyone could help.

I would like a set of pads in a kit with the backing plate but I will also need to get some polish, etc. My cars are in decent shape with some minor swirls andd scratches and spotting. The only supplies I currently have are some old Meguiars #7, #9, s100, NXT, and Collinite IW. What products should I pickup? It would be nice to get the pads and poishes from the same place, but that may not be possible. I read a lot about DACP and I am also very interested in Vanilla Moose. I think I would like to finish with a sealant and then either top with s100 or Collinite.

Will a set of three pads be sufficient and do you all use the mf bonnets for removal? If so how many of those will I need. Also, I used a cheap orbital in the past and to me it seemed like the smaller pads were easier to use to get into the small areas (above the door handle, bumper, around windows, etc.). Should I get the smallest pads possible? How do you deal with this?

Thanks in advance....I can't wait to get started.

Anything I am missing or forgetting?

I got everything from properautocare.com LC pad package that included a backing plate and Menzerna products that I've been very happy with. I don't think they carry Vanilla Moose.

well here some advice from someone that was in your shoes about 1 yr ago. Started with a PC DA and have now made the leap into rotary (a whole new world by the way).

Going back to my PC DA days, I purchased the backing plate (4 3/4" some just say 5") from autopia.com as I did my pads. To save you a little money I wouldn't buy the complete set of pads unless you're going to do this as a profession. Like yours, my car's paint has always been kept in great condition with the exception of some minor spider webbing and light scratches probably from car cover vs dust. I only end up only using the "finishing" pads for all my work and rely more on the product than the pads to do the work.

I have 2 sonus finish pads for my PC but the pad I really like is the meguiars finishing pad (it's the tan colored pad). I found the foam on the meguiar's finishing pad to be NOT as dense as the foam in the Sonus pad. Also, for me meguiars pads are easier to buy (get the at the local auto paint & body supply stores). I'm sure others will say you need heavy cutting pads, med cutting pads, polish pads ect ect but to be honest the finishing pads work well for me - again I use the product to do most of the work.

as for products wow, that opens up a flood gate of comments but here is mine. My go to products are meguiar's DACP and meg's # 80. they've always worked well and go on & off rather easily. I polish out my car about every 4 months therefore I use KLASSE AIO as my second to last product - excellent excellent stuff I highly recommend it. I don't use the KLASSE sealant (SG i think its called) because it is a pain in the a$$ to remove, tried it and hated it (personal opinion). then I follow with either meg's #16, mother's pure carnuba. I tried NXT and it's ok but the other two last longer.

Now, as of late I tried the poorboys world products and those too are excellent. I tried the SSR2.5, SSR1 and the polilsh with 100% carnuba - great stuff. With my car's condition I don't need to jump up to the SSR2.5 but i keep it around for those times when a friend or family wants me to tackle their car for them (usually kept in bad shape).

Well that's been my experience. Again, save the money on pads and use it on product(s) finishing pads do the trick just fine.

Good luck.

pretty much equal but remeber if you want the larger pad it's more cash and another backing plate.

ok here is the low down the first set is the EDGE 2000 set you get their adapter and you can use it on any on thier edge pads 4 inch 6i nch and 8 inch(4 inch was never brought to market but someone on DC has them and it's not me.) also they make foam and wool pads.

Pro's

Two pads in one

Double sided means you can use the top of the pad for buffing

No backing plate to catch on

No centering issues

easly goes from Rotary to PC

You can order pads with different foams(cuttting one side/polishing the other)

Cons

The adapter is long

In the PC they can wobble a little bit.

Wierd at first

These had glue issues at first but it was mainly with PC use

Velcro

Pro's

Widely used

Even paint stores carry some.

Con's

Backing plate could cause damage

If not centered could cause damage

Velcro could fail

PS get the big O

ok, I am getting ready to order. i am going to go with the sonus pads from Autopia. Seems to be pretty cheap and I am also going to pick up some dacp and AIO.

I placed my order with autopia and also ordered some stuff from Poorboys. So here is what I ordered:

sonus da pad kit

xtra blue pad

xtra green pad

dacp

AIO

SSR2

Ex-P

I already have s100, #7, #9, NXT, Collinite 845 IW, GEPC (or SEC), Do I qualify as an autopian yet? I think I have gone mad. So which combination and pad should I start out with. I am going do start with a maroon/burgundy Expedition that has some visible scratches/spotting/swirling. I was thinking I would start out with SSR2 (on a green polishing pad?) and then switch to DACP (orange cutting pad?) if that doesn't get the job done. Then #9, AIO, EX-P. Does that sound right? Am I missing any "between" products?

What would be best for my other car that only has very minor scratches (very minor and only in certain light). The color on this car is desert silver.

Thanks again for autopians. Although, it's costing me a fortune. Now I just have to read up and make sure I know the best way to use these new products.
