Just got my flex...any tips?

I've been working with a PC for a while now and my wife just bought me a flex. Got it last night. Nice looking machine.

I'm going to use it for the first time this weekend on a trashed black jetta.

I have 105/205, UNO, Menz 203, and PB SSR2.5 and 1 polishes

PFW, hydrotech, and a bunch of CCS pads.

Any tips from the flex experts?

You need to hold the Flex with both hands firmly (less down pressure is needed compared to a PC) flat against the paint. Find a good position to stand to properly. Otherwise, it tends to want to wander a bit. Unlike a PC, you should not hold it outstretched (like when doing the center of some hoods or roofs unless you are tall with long arms) to keep it under control.

Rez90- I don't really consider myself a Flex *expert* but I'll chime in anyhow:

-Take off the backing plate and put a little light oil on the felt ring. I then blotted off some excess oil, and I'd rather have "too little" (scare-quotes intentional) than too much. IME most any oil, and any minimal amount, will work OK as it's pretty much just insurance against something that shouldn't happen any way (namely the plate getting forced against the felt ring/housing due to excessive applied pressure).

- Make sure the bolt for the backing plate is nice and snug, but don't overdo it either.

-Don't apply excessive applied pressure when the plate/pad is at an angle (as opposed to flat on a level panel).

To compound, 105 (will dust like hell) or UNO (pretty much no dust) and your wool pad.

I prefer the side handel over the top handel also the oil on the felt was a old problem u do not need to do that my machine is 2 and a half years old probly done over 300 cars no oil on felt

Sounds like you're not applying excessive pressure :xyxthumbs I applied a *little* oil just as insurance, but yeah...shouldn't really be necessary.
