Is SG outdated?

With all the recent talk about other sealants such as Zaino Z2Pro, 4* UPP, Wolfgang, Poorboy's EX-P, etc, it seems that the old tried and true Klasse SG hasn't received much attention. Are people just not using it any longer as they find newer alternatives that are easier to work with, or has it remained a staple in your regimen? I personally love the look of SG, but prefer the ease of removal of Zaino, and I love the look of the Z2 as well. However, the SG doesn't have to be used with an accelerator (Z1, ZFX), but rather simply applied over an AIO'd surface. It's a tough call.

Only reason I do not use SG on my car is because I prefer the look, feel, and easier application/removal of UPP. It is still reached for when I do other other cars and do not have a new product to try.

I still use KSG on our minivan for the durability. I do like that I can add another application after any wash without having to mix anything. I'm not crazy about how it looks, but it *is* just our minivan. Seems to provide a *lot* of protection, at least with all the layers I put on there. Some very fine marring (the kind you could only see in certain light when you were really looking for it) ended up being in the KSG, not the paint! Even though that vehicle gets used awfully hard, I don't even have to polish it every year. I credit the KSG.

I also use it on wheels. It just seems to layer/last better than BF/UPP, which I do prefer looks-wise. I do use UPP on the S8's wheels, but that car is rather pampered.

KSG isn't outdated for this user, not by a long shot.

Accumulator,

I'm so disappointed I never had the good fortune to have marring only my layers of SG. :( I'm assuming a simple addition of a layer of SGwould be the remedy?

Bill D- I just let it go until I didn't want to think about it any more and then redid it, starting with AIO. Did a bit of the panel with MG before I realized I didn't really need any abrasives :o

I just dont think that SG is that great in comparison to other products out there. Its far too tempermental when I can reach for Zaino or UPP. The last coat of UPP that I had on my my ride lasted 4 months in the MN winter, that is plenty.

Compared to Zaino or FMJ, SG is a relative bargain. I've never had a problem with SG being difficult to apply or remove. The Klasse Twins are my go to products.

I haven't had problems with the applying or removal of SG. I'm happy with the durability and shine it gave to my car. Klasse twins where my first buy when I entered to Autopia (January 2005). I'm planning using them until I finish their content. That might be a looonng time ;)

Just how far back does SG go?

The label on the bottle has a little yellow ribbon that says, "European Association of Inventors Honorary Gold Medal 1973" Going by that, we can assume it's at least 32 years old. Hey! It's a Space Age" polymer, just like NuFinish!:D

I still use SG on some of the medium to lighter colored cars .. I have shyed away from it on my black Passat .. I find with it I have to use a mist to remove it so it doesn't haze or streak.I feel if I am doing this I am compromizing the curing.

On lighter cars you don't notice the hazing and its gone after the first wash or 2.

On mine its Zaino ..

Outdated: debatable.

Tried and true: you betcha.

I learned the nuances of SG application fairly quickly and I personally don't think its a hassle at all. Sure it's not as easy as S100 or NXT but its still not a chore (for me anyways). And being tickled pink everytime I use it helps.

It's the best for duability. My customers come back for SG everytime. BECAUSE lasting shine, protection and how easier it is to clean. I had a customer come over and said it's been 6 months and it still beeds and the salt rinses off, it doesn't stick to your car.

They have made up dated changes to SG. They where the first to use polymers. I was told.

Please don't compare NuFinish to SG.

No way in hell it's getting out dated. I've use UPP and it easier to get on if your using SG for the first time, BUT it doesn't last like SG. YOu can see that SG shine 6 months later.

Klasse Sealant Glaze=NuFinish?

Hmmm...

I consume water every day, and it is primarily the same formula since its inception.

SG can be applied and removed in 15-20 minutes, looks great, and outlasts almost anything. Outdated? I vote no.

Outdated i hope not. Then i'd have to buy something else. I still use it quite a bit. I just wish Klasse would update, acknowledge or just say hello.

It's still a great product. Sure, there are lots of great new sealants out there. But, SG is still one of the best out there.

Klasse SG / Car-Lack has been around since â€â„¢60 and is still one of the most durable synthetics around, and is the most used product for MB dealerships, although Zanio is giving it a run for its money

Outdated, maybe but itâ€â„¢s a lot more durable then a certain new â€Ëœengineered synthetic polymerâ€â„¢ that I doubt will be around in forty / fifty years from now

I do not care if Klasse is "outdated" or not .. just if it works well and as claimed. I also care that the main attributes and potential problems involved with using Klasse are well known and understood, so that people can make an informed choice on whether Klasse might be an LSP that would work well for them.

On all of these measures Klasse still scores near the top of the class and WAY ahead of some of the newer sealants often discussed in Autopia (Zaino being one of the few exceptions).

SOMETIMES older is better! Just look at TOGWT! :rofl
