In-Line Water Softener?

Does anyone have any experience with an in-line water softener like the type sold at Griot's Garage?



Griot's Garage In-Line Water Softener



I would like something I can install and remove easily at a hose bib outside my shop when needed.



How well does a cartridge filter work? Who else sells this type or another recommendation?
