I Need Your Advice!

I just recently purchased a new car (loaded Infiniti G35 Black on Black) and I need your advice on washing/drying this car. Just to clarify, the car is known for having "soft" paint.

Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and don't have access to a hose. I do have two big buckets that I can fill with water with and wash the car in the parking lot (outdoors).

There is a coin-op that's about 30 minutes away.

How can I take extensive care of my new car? Washing/Drying?

I am slightly experienced with detailing. I do own a porter cable, and a box full of detailing products. I'm tired of bothering friends and family for their hoses.

What is the best possible solution for my situation? I'm sorry if this has been asked before.

I've read about the rinse-less product called Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine. Is this the product for me? I'm hesitant about this product.

Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and convenience.

ONR would be perfect for you. Learn the 2 bucket method with grit guard and proper drying. Your black G35 will get marring/swrils by just looking at it so be extra careful when washing and drying.

Wow.. Thanks for all the quick response.

I will look into ONR and see what they have to offer.

I'm just a little worried about not using water to rinse or pre-soak the car.

It sounds like using a my touch-up/detail bottle to wash the whole car.

I hope I won't be adding any swirls or marring to the car.

Thanks for the responses. Any more tips and suggestions will be appreciated.

You can mix ONR, QD strength in a pump spray bottle to pre-soak before washing. Remember ONR will not take the place of a regular wash when your car is dirty.

Ok, you got me a little confused now.

ONR mixed with water (Quick Detail 6oz/1gal) can be used to pre-soak the car before a wash?

I can't use ONR for regular washing? (1oz/2gal) - Without Rinsing?

- You don't recommend using ONR as a car wash? (Bi-weekly)

QD has been changed from 6ozs. to 8ozs. per gallon. When your car is slightly dirty, especially the lower panels, you can pre-soak with ONR Qd before doing an ONR wash. This will help loosen some of the dirt and grime.

Yes, you use onr wash (1oz. per 2 gal) without rinsing.

Bump to the above - ONR is the way to go.

Oh, and if you're even remotely into detailing you will grow to hate that car. Absolutely horribly soft clearcoat. :grrr

Even if you're an experienced detailer, I wouldn't recommend washing that car 2x a week. Maybe once every 2-3weeks, unless you like driving yourself mad with myserious marring that appears for no reason. :grrr:grrr

I appreciate your help Legacy99.

Any recommendations on equipment?

I was considering to use these with ONR.

Washing - The Bone By Cobra

The Bone by Cobra is a soft, plush car wash sponge wrapped in microfiber for unbeatable softness. Use your favorite car shampoo with the bone

Drying (#1) - Prima Monster Fluffy

( Any alternatives?) - (Used the same one on Scottwax's Video)

Drying (#2) - Vrooom from Target (taken from video)

Also considering

Megs WW

Meguiars Water Magnet is a soft waffle weave microfiber drying towel that's softer than terry towels and more absorbent than a chamois. Attracts water

Everything else I pretty much have already...

Yeah, so I've heard. Infiniti has upgraded to a "self-healing" paint protection.

I'll wash it once every two weeks. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Legacy99 for your help.

Time to purchase more products/equipment.

I live in a condo and have been using the ONR....I spray down the car with an ONR mix....and then I use the one bucket method......so far I am happy with the product....though my car is white

On a side note...I read that Infiniti's clearcoat is self correcting.....

Yeah, I believe on their 09+. I have an 07'.

Anyone have any good recommendations on products to use with ONR. I'll do a quick search I'm sure there are a few threads on it.

I'm thinking about using...

Washing - Cobra "The Bone"

Drying (#1) - A Large Plush MF (Prima Monster Fluffy?)

- Any good alternatives?

Drying (#2) - A decent MF (Vrooom from target?)

- Scott was using these on the video.

- I'm a little concerned that they're from Target.

- Any alternatives?

What about Megs WW?

Thanks

Oh, is yours a recent year? (08/09)? I know the 03-05s are horrible (speaking from experience), 06-0? I don't really know, havn't heard many complaints about paint quality, so maybe they changed it.

I wasn't aware that g35s were using self-healing paint (I thought only the EXs?), but I'd be really curious to see how a detailer takes care of it - i.e., somebody who knows how to wash properly and not induce marring.

I've found (atleast for me) the best towels to use with ONR for washing to be autogeek's purple cobra's jrs.

They have the right amount of nape and plush to them, plus it's very easy to see when it's dirty (I do a panel, see any dirt on the towel then rub it out before using it on the next panel)

For drying, I've found the blue waffle's weaves to be good - I first use a leaf blower ot get off the majority of the water, then spritz with M135/UQD, use the blue waffle wevae to spread the quick detailer/sop up any leftover water, then use a purple cobra jr to buff off the qd (incase you can't tell, I LOVE the purple cobra jr towels)

Don't use a MF to wash, especially with ONR. Dirt will just cling to a mf. Use a sheep skin or a grout sponge.

I've had the exact opposite experience - I've tried a sheep skin mitt and it marred the HELL out of my car after 1 wash. never tried a grout sponge though.

MF tenticle mitt was horrible as well.

However, I've had excellent "luck" with the MF towels (specifically purple cobra jrs) - I generally wash one panel, then rub out the cloth in my bucket, then proceed to the next.

After every wash I go over the car with my sun gun and brinkman looking for washed induced marring - I never find any (except on suppppper soft black, like g35c and bentley cgt, but even then it's just hte occasional marr here and there because of how soft the paint is, nothing major)
