How to use cleaning spurs

Hey guys, I'm searching to find a video out there how to properly use cleaning spurs? The different types on different pads? Thanks

You kind of kick them into the side of the horse...

A spur is for a wool pad, is that what you are doing? The things that look like big toothbrushes are for foam pads, the most effective way to clean is to run the brush from inside to out while the pad is spinning slowly. If you are spurring a wool pad, wait for someone else, because I have not used one. Sorry I have no video :p

Thanks Setec, aren't there spurs in that cleaning system(on the bucket)?? So you start the tool in the center of the pad hold the DA still and move the spur towards the outside ??? Correct?

I'm talking about a hand-held brush on a foam pad. Dial the speed down on your PC or whatever, turn it on and firmly grip it in one hand and draw the brush across it with the other. Some dust and stuff will fly off so don't do it in your face.

A spur for wool pads had metal toothed rollers in it, and I imagine the technique is the same. If your bucket comment refers to one of those "automated" pad cleaning systems (IIRC there is a Grit Guard one and an LC one), I wouldn't call that "spurring"; it's a little different concept.

I usually just flip my makita over and brace it against the ground so it is stable... then, with the buffer spinning around 1000 rpm I take the spur and apply it against the pads surface (spinning the spur's metal rollers), moving it from the outer edge inward, and then back out, repeating as necessary. The whole time I am applying enough pressure to agitate the knap.

Does that make sense?

I'll see if I can make a video of doing this for you tomorrow. (not sure if my camera has a video feature) It's really quite simple. You hold it pad side up and spur it... I found this video on youtube. I didn't listen to the spew he was trying to make so I don't hold any value to him actually polishing the car but about half way through he spurs his pad in a fashion that I find pretty acceptable. Pretty close to how I do it.

Thanks Jakerooni, I saw that before but it's hard to see what he's doing?
