how to make a dark colour darker?

Wondered if any of you guys can help me on this one or indeed i can make it any better, ie: darker.

Paint type is metallic British racing green. This is my prep :



1. Wash and clay

2. Scratch X applied with random orbital buffer

3. One Grand Omega Glaze with buffer

4. Autoglym Super resin (british version of Klasse AIO)

5. Autoglym sealant

6. P21s wax



After this the car does indeed look amazing but i can't help think

i can get the colour darker. Ive noticed after each step the colour

is indeed darker but im obviously looking for the ultimate dark

green.



Has anyone found any "product" that you thought, bloody hell

that made a huge difference to the darkness of the finish.

im looking for that product that can add a zing to it.

at any stage in the prep.

One product that I continualy hear the description "it will make the paint darker" is Meguiars #26 high tech wax. Do a search and you will find this over and over again. I have seen it on my paint. You might try topping your sealant with #26.
 
Mark, how many layers of the Autoglym sealant do you have on your car? When I had multiple layers of KSG on my car, I could have sworn it gave my car a darker, deeper shine. In fact, I was a bit disappointed in the way a single application of AIO and KSG looked, but using multiple coats really did the trick. If AG truly is basically the same as Klasse, then I would give that a shot and then top with your P21S.

I could be wrong here, but isn't Omega Glaze just a glaze - no polish? If so, doesn't the SR just strip it straight off? Did you test it to see?



If not, I'd love to hear it as I'd like to make my car a bit darker too!
 
I have had excellent results applying Platinum UPP over megs #81 Hand Polish. #81 gives a remarkably deep and wet finish. The UPP captures this look and adds gloss of its own. I'm sold. :xyxthumbs
 
I would suspect the Autoglym is removing the glaze. Try adding the wax directly over the glaze which should give a rich dark shine, whereas the Autoglym would give a higher gloss. I am sure I have read about people using wax over Autoglym will success.
 
i suspect the autoglym does indeed remove all traces of the glaze but after a coat of autogylm on the glaze its ALOT darker. Probably could give the glaze a miss but you know when you've a winning formula its hard to break you prep routine!
 
If you want a darker and wetter effect on the paint, go for a glaze and carnauba combo, IMO. Meg hand polish, IHG, Mothers S&G coupled with your choice of carnauba would give you the looks you're after.

Wax is fine over SR or Extra Gloss - as you would expect, since its a two stage polymer system a bit like Klasse



BUT the perceived wisdom here is that the solvents in the glaze will tend to strip the polymer. I have yet to test this...
 
I had a dark emerald green Accord and tried several waxes, polishes, and sealants on it but the combo that produced the best deep, dark, wet look was 3M IHG topped with S100.
 
There's something that does it visibly and you can buy locally on the UK, 3M Perfect-It III, the Machine Polish and the Finishing Glaze. You can just wax on top of it, and it'll look better than anything you saw before.

I have a black Audi. I put Poorboys EX on half of my trunk, AIO and SG on the other. EX was noticably darker. I put EX on my hood, next to Platinum. EX was slightly darker.



Going to try Einszett next.



Of course, your mileage may vary.
