How do I remove or reduce hairline scratches from painted bumpers (G Wagon)

Hi all my professional detailers,

I have a few minor hairline scratches on the painted bumpers and fenders on my new G Wagon. I've tried my trusty Wolfgang swirl remover, my Labocosmetica polish, and CarTec polish. Nothing seems to be making any difference.

My picture won't attach, says file is too big....... I even reduced it drastically.

What is the process you are using?

Does your Mercedes-Benz G-wagon have a hard, scratch-resistant clear coat applied by the factory to the exterior paint? I would ask the dealer where you bought the G-wagon from if it does.
This may be the reason "conventional" polishes may not work on such a clear coat and you will need polishes specifically designed for such hard clear coats, like Scholl's Concepts S30+ or Menzerna Super Finish 3500.
Nor have you mentioned what specific pad (manufacturer and type)and polishing machine you are currently using to remove these hairline scratches. This, too, can be a factor in how successful your efforts are. This is not to imply you do not know what you are doing, but you are asking for suggestions because what you are doing presently is not working to your satisfaction.

Thanks for replying. I tried using my Wolfgang swirl remover and Wolfgang Uber compound, Cartec & Labocosmetica fine polish with my 3" yellow foam pad on my Griots polisher.

Regarding the question does my G Wagon have a scratch resistant clear coat, I just asked my dealer, they havent a clue. Its a 2025 in Twilight Blue.
 
Maybe if you asked the body shop department of the M-B dealership THEY would know if your G-Wagon comes with a scratch-resistant clear coat
and what specific compounds and polishes (M-B authorized and approved) they suggest to use on the harder-than-normal clear coat.
Or ask your question on a M-B G-Wagon owner's forum. Someone knows the answer.
And when you find and know the answer, please kindly share it with us Autopians.

So, Mercedes stopped using their Nano Ceramiclear scratch resistant hard clearcoat in 2012. My G Wagon is a 2026. The Hendrick Automotive body shop in Charlotte NC said its the standard clearcoat used on all new Mercedes except the Magno matte finishes, which mine is not Magno.

It is valuable information about M-B exterior finishes for future reference to those Autopians who maybe detailing such vehicles.

Thanks for that info, Risley! (Accumulator has a Benz now...)

It sounds like you just need abrasives with more cut. On hard clear, of any kind, it can be pretty surprising how hard even minor correction can be.

Would you trust Hendrick's bodyshop to do the correction? I haven't done business with that Hendrick since..gee, '07!, so I dunno whether they're competent, but these days some dealerships do quite good Detailing. Back in '07, they were all about some blue-colored glaze that concealed flaws incredibly well, but maybe they're OK now.
