Gr-40

Can I please hear some feedback on the Trim-A-Shield products (as sold by TOL), and more specifically the GR-40. How well does it remove wax residue, etc?

Also, is it worth it to apply the "Clear Shield" to the moldings after cleaning them? Does it provide any sort of durability or does it wash away pretty much immediately?

Thanks. Im looking most at the GR-40, but if people also recommend the Clear Shield, I would buy that too.

Thanks.

Clear shield lasts a while but it doesn't really change the color much. You just use it over the black shield to give a glossier look and longer durability. GR-40 is one of the best products out there for wax removal, but I haven't gotten much use out of the rest of the dye kit (trim fading is not a big issue in Maine).

GR-40 is an awesome cleaning product. I use it and highly recommend it. I have found that most of the trim that I "thought" had to be dyed didn't really need to after cleaning it with the GR-40. Excellant stuff. :up

Ive really only encountered 2 cars of the few that I detail that need any trim cleaning/wax removal....should I order the 8oz or the larger size? (how much is used per application?)

I got mine in a few days ago

How do you suggest appyling it? I bought the applicator to apply but seems to not be dense enough to soak up alot of the product. Also does the vinegar really work? Any suggestions on applications?

I use usually two methods for applying the GR40. One is with a microfiber towel. For smooth moldings, seams or on materials that have no texture a microfiber towel works just fine. Just pour a bit onto the towel, in a corner of the towel, and work it over and into the areas which need to be cleaned.

For areas with texture, like BMW bumper trim, fabric and vinyl tops or really imbedded stuff I'll use a variety of brushes and q-tips.

Ya know the sunroofs on Porsches where the fabric/felt "gasket" the goes around the sunroof? Well on many new clients cars those areas are usually all messed up with wax and grime, well what I do is during the washing step I'll pour out a small amount into those areas and work it in with either my fingers or a thin soft brush and then rinse it out or for real grime I'll then use my steamer. The grime and imbedded gunk is gone. I love this stuff.

Little to nothing. I would just QD that area and if it puts you more at ease throw on some wax to that area.

Now on a freshly dressed tire or trim it may streak that.

Gents (maybe Ladies), been a while since I put up a note here in wonderful Autopia. The timing of this thread is perfect. Ordered the GR-40 last week based on my research here and will give it a go this weekend. If I may jump in here with regards to application, how about the vinegar use? Do you wipe the GR-40 area to neutralize as directed? Thanks.
