I think this might be the site mentioned.

The site has this posted under FAQ's.

Q: I wash my vehicle at home using a garden hose?

A: Washing your vehicle at home is extremely harmful to the finish. The University of

Texas proved that a single home hand-wash can leave scratches in your finish as deep

as 1/10 of the paints total thickness. Also, the average garden hose cannot supply

enough water and water pressure with the detergent action to avoid damaging a vehicle's

finish.

This important study concluded that automobile owners should avoid washing their

vehicles at home. Only a professional car wash can provide the proper amounts of water

and water pressure needed along with the appropriate soaps and waxes to safely and

effectively clean your vehicle.

Hmmmm, interesting! According to this site, we are all seriously damaging our cars!!

edit: Hey Fenrir, I think we posted at the exact same time!! :D

hmmm....... sounds like a sales and marketing tactic to me..... I think I'd like to see that study, and find out what was wrong with the wash technique they were using ;)

damage was done to an automobile when using detergent, low water volume commonly found in hose nozzles at home, buckets of water, sponges and towels used in the average home car washing.

umm... yeah. Meaning like most people who don't use only the best burn-tested 100% cotton washmitts, the 2-bucket method, etc. to wash their cars. Like us.

I think carguy should do a test on this with his lighting/camera setup just like he did with the Zaino test awhile back. :up :D

lol fenrir and V4M I had already copied and pasted that to put in a reply. :D

So what is this about pressure? How will un pressurized water cause scratches??? Wouldnt be the other way around? Hmmm... Im tempted to call up UT and ask them about this study on (carwashes)... lol I would think they have better things to do with their time.

EDIT: just saw the link to the study. That sounds like a bunch of BS to me... Ive lived in Texas all my life and have never even heard of UT Arlington. SLD, lol yeah my mitts have to pass the burn test before I use them. Thats why I always buy two! hehe

You did see who paid for the reasearch. The International Carwash Association.

I just found another carwash with this info and was going to post, but got beaten to it.
