Does the absorber work well?

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy 5-10 drying towels. At pakshak, and other online retails, waffle weaves are at least $9 and usually much higher. I know the absorber, from Pep Boys, is a cheap OTC alternative but does it work well?

Are there any other economic alternatives to the absorber or is the pakshak $9 WW the cheapest it goes otherwise?

i would go with the waffle weave/microfiber drying towel(s). it's not worth risking scratching/marring the finish with an absorber since it has no nap/pockets for dirt particles to bury themselves in. though, some use the absorber to blot dry most of the water and then follow up with a waffle weave or microfiber towel...

another alternative is the waffle weaves from walmart... http://autopia.org/forum/good-deals/69234-wws-walmart.html?highlight=walmart+ww's

the ABSORBER is awesome for drying. Cuts time in half.

They stay clean as well, as long as you take care of them and actually wash and rinse your car properly. Shouldn't have any problems with scratching the paint.

There is a towel that I tried out last weekend. Kleraudio and myself did his fiancees car. It is the Dragon WW Drying towel from Properautocare. It blew us away. Best of all, it is cheaper than most. It holds more than my Absorber and is just an overall better towel...They obviously changed some things, because their new Buffing towel that comes with the Blackfire kit (sold separately as well) is the softest towel either of us have ever felt as well.

Opening can of worms...I use the water blade to knock most of the water off the just use a clean MF towel to dry - I haven't had any issues with that method. Your milage may vary!

If you are dealing with a vehicle that isn't properly waxed, use the Absorber as it'll be able to retain and remove a lot more water at a faster rate of speed. However, it will likely leave streaks.

Personally, I used the Absorber for a good 6 years before switching to the Guzzler. Haven't looked back since.

I've used an Aborber for years -- and haven't had any problems. You can wash them. They aren't that great for drying windows, but most use MF on windows anyway.

I found the absorber nice. IMO, you would get swirling if you don't dump your absorber first in water before use. It does take less time to get the water. The only cons is when your absorber dried, it become so stiff.

The Absorber comes in a plastic case that you should always use. And you should always put it away a little damp... it should never dry out on you if you make sure and keep the case.

I'm interested in this guzzler though... what's that?

+1

I got my Dragon just over a month ago. It has seen at least one vehicle and one washing machine cycle every day ever since. I would guess about 45 washes or so total. It's starting to show it's wear. I think it's about at it's half way point right now as far as wear is concerned. It's still doing a great job, though.

another fan of the Absorber here.

i here the arguments for a Waffle Weave MF, but i dont find they work as well - too much streaking even when rung out well.

nothing is better on glass than the Absorber :secret

Another vote for the WW towels from walmart. $3 for 2 towels is quite the bargain. I also have the viking drying towel and is very nice as well but a bit more pricey, around $8 I believe.

I use the absorber when I'm using a wax as you dry product like Duragloss Aquawax, and a waffle weave towel when I'm just drying without any spray product. I've found that the spray waxes will build up in a towel causing it to not want to absorb water. I think they each have their benefits.
