Discuss Black Tahoe

I am going to be doing a black Tahoe that sits outside 24/7. I am doing it with the owner who is a buddy.

I was thinking:

1. Wash Poor Boys Soap

2. Clay

3. Wash

4. Orange Pad with 3M SMR for Dark Colored Cars 4,000 RPM (Other Options are SSR2, and SFX 1, 2 and 3. I am not familiar enough with SFX yet though and would hate to begin with it and not have it turn out the way I know)

5. Top with NXT

6. Top with Pinnacle Sovereign for Dark Colored Cars (The 50 dollar Can other option Megs #16)

I am looking to reduce swirls and scratches not eliminate since time does not allow.

I want to hide the rest of the issue.

How long do I work the 3M in for? Till Dusting, Till Gone, ect… I have about 90 minutes tops with 2 guys to do this. Dam Daylight Savings and having other jobs. I also have the PB Sealant that I like using...

Out of your supplies I would use the 3M SMR. and Top it PB's sealer (hopefully you have EX), then #16. That's a nice combo on black.

*I hope you meant 4000 orbits per second (i.e. -using a Porter Cable 7424), and not a Rotary. 4000 RPM on a rotary would start a fire on your paint (LOL).

Good luck.

I don't know if u mean 4000 OPM = speed setting 4, but PC's need to be run on speed 6 to really do any defect removing. In 90 minutes your probably only going to be able to get the hood and the front fenders done, especially considering its a large SUV and part of that time is taken up in washing/claying. PC's take a long time to do anything (compromise for safety). NXT is good for some swirl hiding but has cruddy durability. #16 has has decent swirl hiding ability with great durability. Normally LSP combos last as long as the most short-lived product. This would be NXT. I would give the advice of putting #16 under NXT so that when NXT dies off, it doesn't take #16 with it, but I don't know if NXT's cleaners are strong enough to remove #16. Can anyone else chime in and let me know if they will?

Well he arrived at 4:30ish and as you all know it gets dark early. We washed, spot clayed, washed, NXT with a blue Pad at 4500 orbits on the PC. We worked it in very well and it wiped right off. Drastic improvement. One panel at a time, as it got dark we topped with Pinnacle and used Black Onyx on the tires and AA Extreme Shine wiped down on the wheel wells.

He used the PC for the first time and was impressed. I bet he gets one within the month.
