I am preparing myself to detail my car and was wondering if it was really necessary to give it a dawn wash. I will be claying, compounding, swirl removing, and using AIO on my paint. Won't this process remove the wax rendering the dawn wash useless?
Dawn wash is not neccessary at all. Anyone who can use paint cleaner properly does not need it. This unnecessary practice has its origin with Zaino users. Zaino has no cleaners and the Dawn strips any wax.
Why Zaino suggests Dawn, a dish washing liquid, instead of a good paint cleaner has never been explained. Perhaps because they prefer people to use Dawn instead of suggesting another brand of car care product.
That is, unless you're using Zaino. Zaino is a strictly water-based polymer that bonds to oil free surfaces. Using a paint cleanser (most are loaded with oils) prevents Zaino from crosslinking. That's why Sal prefers people to use Dawn.
