Damage vehicle while picking up

I ran into something today I never had to deal with before. I picked up a customers car and arrived at my location. When I went back to move the car the clutch pedal just went to the floor. Called a mecanic and its the clutch pedal return spring. About a $80 repair.

What do you guys do in this situation? Tell the customer his car has this problem and fix it out of your pocket?

Its obviously something caused by wear and not by me.

Your work order you had the customer sign will save your butt.

Mine has this - "I will not hold Superior Shine responsible for existing damage and/or for damage not caused by their negligence."

I'd call the customer and let them know. If they are honest, they will cover the repair since it obviously isn't your fault.

Personally, I would have been honest and called the customer.

What do you mean you would have been honest? I called the customer to inform him of the problem, I paid out of pocket to repair it. Delivered and picked up the car at the shop myself. Customer offered to repay me and agreed that it was a wear item and not negligence, I refused the money, I think it will benefit me in the long run. I was just curios what you would do in this situation if the customer had gotten angry and thru a fit. Obviously superior shine has this covered. LOL

I am not on your side of the fence (ie. not a professional Detailer) so from a customer's perpsective I would have expected to pay.

Considering you were doing the runaround and getting the problem fixed & maybe getting a better price than the owner could get because you are in the trade, it would be a win all round.

Way off topic...welcome back mirrorfinishman havent seen you around lately.

Anyways I think everyone agrees to call the customer and let them know what is going on. I think Zinum went the extra step to have it fixed for one less headache for the customer, far above and beyond what he had to do. :xyxthumbs
