My wife bought me this DSLR for my 50th BDay this year. Tomorrow to be exact. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this camera and could offer up any tips or tricks. I am very excited about learning this camera. To the extent of maybe taking a class at the Learning Exchange or something. Thanks in advance for the feedback!!

The best way is to just sit down with the manual and take 100s of experimental pictures.

There's also a few books written just about using the T1i.

For specific questions, there's a Canon DSLR discussion section at DP Review that's filled with experts.

Have fun with your new toy. :) I'm envious.

Best advice. You need to try all the features like bracketing , white balance, focus options, exposure options, crank up the iso, etc to understand how the work. If you leave it on Auto you are not going to get as much out of the camera. Eventually you will get into situations (like strong backlight, etc) where these become very useful.

The main rule is it is better to underexpose rather than overexpose especially on the better cameras. You can always brighten a dark image but you cannot ever recover lost highlights. The histogram will shows this in action,
