Budget Computer Speakers?

I would love to have a 2.1 setup to give my girlfriend for her laptop. She only uses the built in speakers and complains that it is not loud enough with no low-end.

I have about 50-60 bucks to spend. I bought an Altech Lansing 28w set with a 5-1/4" sub last night, and I like the sound, but I wonder could I get more for the same money.

Thanks

I just bought the Logitech Z4i from costco for $69.99 after rebate. Listened to lots of 2.1 set ups in this $ range and a little more and these just sounded the best. Great clairity with good base.

From what I've heard the Logitechs Mike linked to are great speakers, but in general the input signal quality plays a more important role than the speakers themselves. You might want to look at a $30 2.1 set and an external amplifier. A lot of laptops have headphone ports as their only line out, which are usually crappy headphone amplifiers that restrict the potential of the sound. The difference between running a set of speakers out of a pure analog line out versus a headphone amplifier. I am running an old set of Altec-Lansing AVS300's (I think 28W, $25 speakers) and they sound stunning out of a real line out or good video card but they sound like crap out of my brother's laptop's line out.

I have the 5.1 version of those logitechs, and it's still only around 60 bucks at some places. Sounds nice with my Creative sound card. My brother has some 2.1 Altec Lansings and they are trash.

If you see this in time, check out woot.com. They have decent laptop speakers at 2 pairs for $12 today only :2thumbs: .
