Black '51 Chevy Pickup (Restored and Very Nice!)

I have a 1994 Lincoln Continental silver in color. I have washed with dawn, clayed with mothers, AIO/2 and KSG/3 times. The car IMHO is beautiful, however the color is now at least a shade darker. I believe this is why people with dark colored cars have such great success with Klasse.

I would like your comments concerning this darkening process and how it can be controlled.

Thanks

It sounds like KLASSE it tinting the finish to make it look a little darker. You said you like this look so what do you wish to control? It makes sense to me the more coats you apply the more you will see this effect.........

I also noticed it on my DAD's caddy. It is a light silver blue color, and now it it a shade darker blue. My dad likes the look as long as it keeps on beading. That is more important to him.

There really is no way to control the darkness without applying less. Either just use AIO or only put one coat of SG. This should help and still offer great protection.

Oh no, another Lincoln owner!!! :D. The more layers you apply of Klasse, the darker you finish will appear. Next time just try AIOx1 and SGx1 or 2. That way it should be a little lighter than it is now.

Good Luck!!

I spoke about this same issue a few days ago. I ended up stripping everything and trying some Zaino on my car. I'm pretty sure the Zaino will preserve the original color of your car a bit more. For most people this effect from Klasse would be a good thing though. It's just that I kind of liked the lighter paint color. Laters.

This truck has been frame-off restored to factory specs, right down to the straight six engine and the 6-volt power supply. (Although I don't believe the factory paint was even close to this quality, neither were the oak boards in the bed!)

Very nice indeed.

This was for paint correction only. It had quite a few swirls, scratches and water spots.

Process:

ONR wash, Absorber dry
Mothers clay bar
IPA wipedown
M105 via PC7424XP, 5.5" LC Orange CCS, speed 5
M205 via PC7424XP, 5.5" LC White flat, speed 6
IPA wipedown
Blackfire WD via PC7424XP, 5.5" 3M Black Waffle Pad. (x2)
Z8 applied by hand with Megs Supreme Shine MF

For the wooden bed, which was satin clearcoat, I simply wiped it down with Z8, nothing more.

Sorry, no outdoor shots.... it's cold and raining!!!

Awesome job Bill, it's a shame the owner had to pull it outside in this crappy weather. I think this is the worst winter weather we've had in KC since I've lived here, 10 years.

WOW Bill!

Great job on a very cool truck. They don't make them like that anymore.

Now I know what you look like:Dancing Dot:

Nice job Bill! It looks great!

What did you do to the wheels and tires? They look like brand new!

Boy does this bring back memories! We had a '48 and a '51 Chevy 3 speed column shift pickup just like this on the farm. The 51 was the "good" truck that we took to town, and what I used for my first driving lesson at about 8 years old!

Great job on the paint! I'm sure it didn't look that good new!!
