ok so i wash , compund with 3m extra cut, must wash due to hard to remove splatter. then clay, polish follwed by intense wash then glaze and wax. is this a positive system or should it be changed?:nervous:
I'd clay after the wash but before the 3M EC. I like to get as much contamination off the paint as I can before I start with the compounds/polishes.
The 3M EC (I'm assuming you mean PI-III Extra Cut Rubbing Compound pn 05936) is some mighty aggressive stuff and it leaves considerable micromarring whenever I use it. I follow up with a milder compound (usually PI-III RC 05933) and then follow *that* with one or two milder products (usually PI-III MG 05937) go achieve a decent gloss. It always takes a lot of work to bring a finish to a decent standard after that Extra Cut, the stuff's like liquid sandpaper.
No need for washing IMO, just deal with the splatter/etc. as you go. I spray the panels with Meg's #34 when removing compound residue, this helps a lot.
I wouldn't need a glaze after doing all the compounding/polishing. By the time I get the micromarring from the Extra Cut out I'm left with a finish that doesn't need a glaze (unless you're after some specific effect that will require such a product) because I've already removed any marring that a glaze would hide.
