Advice w/some trouble spots

I like cheese.
I have been contemplating how to tackle the below issues for a while now. These vehicles have come and gone through my hands but left me thinking. Any advice on how to remedy these issues would be great. Here are some shots. ..

Swirled center console fascia. I have tried FPII, #80 and a few others, all by hand with no distinguishable results. Very frustrating to get the drivers' "workstation" clean but not "polished" as well. This one in particular is from a an '01 ML and was not touched before the picture.

I had some real issues with the (body) area just above the corner of the end of the bumper and its neighbor on the other side of the pinch weld. The car was repainted eight years ago, sat i the garage (useless info) ad I was trying to remove 1000 grit sanding marks that came off of the weld about 3/4 of an inch.

These pipes had been sitting outside (along with the car) for a little over two weeks here in the SB morning moisture. Of course this is a before shot but I had a real issue with the rust in the crevice. I just couldn't get any leverage to remove the last wee bit.

:wall :help:

1) Try Meguiar's PlastX, Zaino Z-14, or some Novus "2." Those are all formulated to polish plastic, and should be safe on the laminated stuff there. I would also recommend following this with pledge or a similar furniture polish.

2) Are you using a PC? If yes, and the 6.5" pads aren't cutting it, I would check out some 4" spot pads to work into that small area with.

3) For that kind of rust, I'd seriously recommend investing in a dremel tool and some foam polishing cones; one with a very fine tip should be able to work into that crevice and knock out the rest of the rust. Plus it makes the job much easier when you're just using a machine to work the polish for you.

Novus 1 & 2 was a no-go on the center console. Will try 3 on the next and then start replacing them with OEM pieces??

PC yes, 4" were too big. I was thinking maybe an air tool with a 2.5" pad. Then I ned aces to a bigger AC.

Nice tip on the dremmel. I will check out that bookmark somewhere in my Safari for the connection for lots of wheels.

Thank a lot shiny. . .somehting to think about. :xyxthumbs

Ouch.... if Novus 1 and 2 didn't take the scratches out, I don't know if you'll be able to do much with it... good luck with 3, though. I've never had good luck getting the parts to come back after going to something that harsh. Have you considered just filling them (or trying) with a pure polish like #5? I know that's not the ideal solution, but it would at least make it look presentable.

4" too big..... hmm.... yeah sounds like your air tool idea is a good bet. The only other thought is if you could find some 2.5" pads with a spindle, then you could hook them up to an electric power drill and work with it that way....

FYI on the dremmel, I picked up some cones at harbor freight for like $6. If you have one of their stores near you, it might be worth a look.

Glad I could help (some) :xyxthumbs Good luck!
