99 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Correction

DETAILKING

New member
I go through a hose nozzle every few months. The steel ones are made of soft die cast metal and seem to bend and deform easily when dropped on the ground. I bought a nice black resin one from target and the damn thing seized on me, and then I broke the lever off it while man handling it try to get it to work. I just can't seem to find a good hose nozzle that produces both a fine mist and a strong concentrated spray. Any recommendations on one that is under 10-15 bucks?

This is a nice one from Griots Garage. One of my suppliers knows that I like to detail cars and gave me this nozzle as a Christmas gift.

In all honesty, it is really too much of a good thing. The construction is fantastic, but I would never drop it on the driveway or leave it outside.

And it does cost too much - $100.

The reason I am posting this, is that I am sure that someone else sell this for much less. Just like the PC that Griots sell for $200.

Every year (seasonal) the Sam's Clubs in Tulsa get in some made by RainBird. Its a twofer, one with all the selections and a second twist type for around 24 bucks. I like the one with the selections cause it has a setting called "center." That setting is basically a jet stream, but their are 10 or so streams shooting out instead of just the one. Of course, you get all the other normal choices too.

Check em' out if you can.

I get mine from Sears. It has ~ 6 settings on it. One is called "gentle shower" and I use this setting for washing my car. I think the price is around $10.

Home Depot has pretty nice nozzles around here. Mine is part metal/plastic and is very abused being dropped and thrown about. Little scuffed up, but works flawlessly.

I will check out grainger or mcmaster carr for something similar....

We use strahman valves in some of the chemical plants we design.....quality products for sure....

$100 for a hose nozzle. Griots has to be the most overpriced source for detaling products I have ever seen. :down

Just buy a bunch of cheapos and keep them handy...Never fails that they break but you always have a spare and save money...

I prefer the ones with rubber coating on them so they break less when accidently dropped.

Yeah, Griots chemicals aren't too bad, but when you start looking at their other stuff, the pricing gets pretty silly.

I am sure that the same nozzle must be available some place else. A manufacturer couldn't make them for the handful that Griots sells in year.

I have the one from CMA..It has about 6 settings. I like the shower setting because its almost like using the hose with no nozzel. It doesnt leave alot of water on the vehicle to wipe off..I think it was about 8-9 bucks..:xyxthumbs

Oh yeah, it's about $6 or $7, and the nice thing about it is that you can adjust it to how water would naturally flow out of a hose. Don't let it hit the paint though!! :nixweiss

Dave wrap it with some electrical tape and maybe some of that rubber tape...or even heat shrink would work...Some protection is better than no protection. Accidents happen!

I have the Griot's nozzle, and my biggest complaint is with that shut-off valve thingy. It was like $40, and it's horrible (IMHO). The thing is so hard to turn open/closed that I twisted the knob away from the shaft set-screw. Now it just "freewheels".... We are lucky and have a lot of water volume at our outside faucets - I think it over whelmed the Griot's thing.

I then bought a True-Value shut off like Dave C shows, and it works fine - no problems, and surprisingly much easier to control.

Just my thoughts.

I use Short Cut's and Dave C's devices in combination. The exact ones! I remove the nozzle and open the brass valve all the way on the brass flow control during rinse. I used to have to kink the hose to get the pressure down. Now I just use a short length of hose between the two (about 4 feet - left over from a now-defunct hose reel), and that makes it perfect. My faucet is behind some plants and not real easy to get at - this combination solves that problem when it comes to rinsing with a steady stream.

That black nozzle from Home Depot (actually, I got mine at Lowes) is very heavy duty and not expensive at all - like 8 bucks or so.

My sister gave me one from Wal-mart for Christmas. It was around $6 and has 6 different settings, and it's great! I don't know why anybody would need to spend any more than that. The nozzle I have is all anybody should need. It perfectly sprays water on the car for $94 LESS than the one from Griots.
