'89 Vette Convertible-Lotso f Pics (No 56K)

Hooked For Life
Here is my Dad’s Torch Red ’89 ‘Vette convertible. Prior to the detail it suffered from cobweb scratches which made the paint seem not as bright as it should be.

All in all, minus the interior, which I had detailed only a few weeks back, and the closer engine detailing, I estimate the detail took me about 7 to 8 hours, the long rear deck and hood of the ‘Vette deceived me, taking more time than I thought.

Interior:

Vacuumed via typical Shop Vac

Two spots on mats were removed with Meguiars APC+

Seats were cleaned with 6:1 water:Woolite mix

Seats conditioned with Lexol

303 on vinyl panels/trim and weather stripping

Klasse AIO/SG on hard plastic console parts

Novus #1 sprayed on cluster display

Wheels, Tires, Undercarriage:

Eagle One Wet with Oxo Brush and small wheel brush

Mothers Tire Cleaner

APC+ on wheel wells/ insides of wheels/undercarriage

Eagle One A2Z on front shocks and aluminum suspension

Klasse twins on wheels

Wash:

Pre treated lowest side panels with Tarminator

Eagle One Wet (including convertible top)

Chenille mitts (wanted to save a little time so opted over sheepskin)

Went over side panels with Tarminator again

Pakshak Waffle weave towel followed by thick terry cotton. All seams blow dried with an electric car dryer

Convertible top:

Remaining lint removed with a large Evercare lint roller on extension handle

This roof is fragile. There’s a bit of acid rain pitting in the plastic window

Novus #2 applied with a cotton terry cloth brightened it a bit. Followed with spraying Novus #1. I did not want to experiment with #3 due to the weak window

Clay:

Erazer (yellow) on glass (for diversity)

Clay Magic (paint and wheels)

** During the claying stage I was absolutely floored there was NO contamination at all on the hood or rear deck and very minimal elsewhere. I doubled checked to make sure I was doing the job correctly, and sure enough, nothing!

Polishing via Cyclo: Nothing exotic, used two “classics: DACP and PI III MG

DACP #83 and yellow Lake Country cutting pads

3m PI III MG and white Lake Country polishing pads

alcohol wipe after every panel

101_0137.jpg

Sealants:

Klasse AIO and black Lake Country pad via PC @ 3.5-4

Klasse SG via Pakshak white mf pad

Polishes and sealants were wiped off with Pakshak Ultra mfs

Engine:

Engine was gone over with an electric car dryer

Surfaces were grease free so they received 303 only.

Metal parts were polished with Eagle One Nevr Dull and Meguiars All Metal Polish, sealed with the Klasse twins

Klasse twins on hard plastic underside of hood

Dressings:

Good ol’ Armor All Original on both sides of tires

(for fun)Mop & Glow acrylic floor shine via an Eagle One A2Z sprayer on plastic undercarriage spare tire cover and wheel wells

The car has permanent acid rain etching and it still has several scratches that are “the next level deeper to cobwebs. I did not experiment with more aggressive polishes ( let alone rotary)on them because a few years back the entire car was wet sanded in attempt to reduce the acid rain damage. Because the thickness of the paint is unknown now on this 15 year old car, I played it safe and focused on enhancing gloss instead of striving to make the car 100% defect free.

In short, the car has never looked look better!

Yeah, thank God I did the interior previously. No snack break just water. I dont think I can move to get out my chair now!

<---panics :scared ;)

I'm not used to this at all, if this car had any more defects than it did, no way could I do it.

This has revised my respect for the pros who do it for a living! :bow

Wow :up

Quite extensive Bill.

I like how you categorized each section.

Car looks really great, especially for it's age. Are you planning on using a carnauba topper?

The majority of cars I detail do not remotely even need the level of detail you performed on that Vette and the ones that do are charged accordingly!! :D

With the still present flaws in your eyes or not the detail you performed on that car is drop dead AMAZING!!!! :bow :xyxthumbs :bow You're Pops should be proud!

Yeah, I can add some P21s, just was waitng for the appropriate cure time for the SG at the moment. Some Souveran, if I order may be an option also :D

Here are the other defects of this car:

The leather seats, the driver's in particular are wrinkled. The driver's side is severely, the leather has cracked and in one spot is being reinforced by glue! I doubt any of the Leatherique products can make an ample improvement

101_0141.jpg

The windshield retains water spots. I tried using vinegar with a towel over it but no improvement. I do not have glass polish. I'm very reluctant to try the 0000 wool/vinegar trick. I have a feeling some glass polish ( Duragloss, Zaino, Auto Glym) may just do the trick though

The wheels are etched and chemically stained from automatic car washes :scared: If my Dad decides to keep the car a little longer, he is considering getting new , chromed OE style wheels

I think those would look great on this car! I need to convince him to replace the seats as well :xyxthumbs

Somebody loves red :shocked

Excellent job!!! What did you think of your new toy (the cyclo)?

Damn you cyclo guys!!! Your going to make me broke.

Is it as safe as the PC as far as not removing much paint?
