#80 Didn't get it done-BACK too FP2

Well I just spent all morning trying to polish out some LITE swirls

On my truck, nothing too bad. So I have been hearing many great things About #80 and thought I would give it a try. So when I finished it looked great (Or so I thought).BUT when I backed it out of the garage into the sun light the swirls were still there, just a lot smaller. So a little BUMMED I pulled back inside the garage and did one fender with my old stand by polish Menzerna FP2. then back out to the sun for quick check, And yes the swirls were GONE. So tomorrow I get to do the whole thing over.

Am I the only one who thinks Menzerna Products are the BESTâ€Â¦. What was I thinking

P.S. All polishing done with PC and white pad

Peace-OUT

Could it be that FP2 is simply more aggressive than #80? It may be you were asking it to do more than its abrasive levels and polishing ability can accomplish. If #80 isn't enough, I go with DACP, then use #80 as my final polish before my LSP.

no, you are not the only one to think that menzerna products are good. they just cost a lot.

Scottwax has a pertinent comment when he mentioned that maybe you were asking for #80 to do more than it is able.

Looking at Menzernas pricing, seems like there stuff is priced in the ballpark of everything else on the market, with the exception of FMJ

Swirls can be very had to get out sometimes, and I am thinking that you just chose a combo that was a little too mild. Then again, you tried FP2 and it worked but what if you would have done another pass with #80 instead of FP2? Do you think it would have come out just as good? What I'm trying to say is that this isn't a complete fair comparison because you already polished the blunt of the swirls out with #80 and all FP2 needed to do was finish them off. Your resluts might have been a little different if you would have started out with FP2. Hey, maybe you just found a perfect combo for your vehicle. First pass with #80, and second pass with FP2. To make it even easier next time, do the very first pass with a cutting pad and the next pass with a polishing pad.

Megs #80 is more abrasive than FP II. FP II is my finishing polish and it is very mild. I have never been able to remove significant defects with it but it does a great job of cleaning up haze and leaving a great finish after a more abrasive product.

well said! :xyxthumbs

From what I understand is that Menzerna FP II is a lot less aggressive than #80, am I wrong? I thought that's why they call it final polish!!

:nixweiss I haven't used much of Menzerna's line. I think Dookie's point is valid. It is quite possible a second pass with #80 would have done just as well as FP2.

I guess if you attempt to remove wirls is with a light abrasive product, and a light abrasive pad, it's going to take more work. Scottwax is very good with #80 as well as Tdekany/GSRstilez. If you are going to use light abrasive products/pads, it's going to take more work. It does sound like 2 passes with #80 would do the trick!

Hmm, I thought that was what I said in my post.

If #80 is more agressive than FPII (which I think it is), then you did the right thing because the #80 would have removed more than was necessary.

Then again, you're using a PC so it may not matter too much.

Like JDookie said, you found a good combo for *your* car.

:D
